Columbia Business School And London Business School Launch Joint Executive MBA Program

In an unprecedented collaboration between two of the world's top business schools, London Business School and Columbia Business School join forces to offer the EMBA-Global. The EMBA-Global will provide graduates with an MBA degree from both institutions, as well as access to two distinguished faculties and alumni and student networks.

The EMBA-Global offers a unique once-a-month schedule alternating between London and New York, capitalizing on both Columbia's and London's locations in the two top commercial, financial and communications/media cities in the world. The program will also include a substantial international field project in Asia. The program's flexible, mobile schedule - enhanced by sophisticated technology for online learning - will give students access to academic and experiential learning on an international level, and bring real rewards to their sponsoring companies.

"This is an extraordinary opportunity," stated Professor Meyer Feldberg , dean of Columbia Business School. "Our partnership with London Business School enables us to offer a program that truly serves the needs of tomorrow's marketplace. The students we enter will be exceptionally mobile and motivated by global opportunities." Feldberg added, "Our vision for EMBA-Global is that we will combine two of the most outstanding academic faculties in the world and take advantage of the deep practitioner base in each city as visiting speakers and project leaders."

Dean John Quelch of London Business School commented: "Truly global companies need a new type of leader, one who can advance the frontiers of business practice by operating seamlessly and equally effectively across cultural boundaries. The EMBA-Global will develop such leaders through a unique and powerful partnership between two of the world's top schools."

The program's distinct features include:

  • A highly selected, internationally experienced group of participants from diverse cultural and industry backgrounds
  • Distributed campus learning supported by cutting-edge technology
  • Comprehensive, state-of-the-art core curriculum that compares the structure, strategy and implementation of business systems across cultural boundaries.
  • Large, diverse elective course portfolio drawn from the both schools' extensive menus
  • Focus on leadership development

Companies choosing to sponsor students through the EMBA-Global program take an active partnership interest in the learning process with a focus on leadership development. Susan A. LaMonica, Human Resources and Development Executive of The Chase Manhattan Bank, stated that her company is looking forward to exploring this unique international educational opportunity for Chase executives. "Our business is borderless; Chase is a leader in the global financial marketplace. Growth opportunities for our clients, our employees and our business revolve around the rapidly changing global economy," she said.

Sir Martin Sorrell, Group Chief Executive of WPP Group plc, which has committed to supporting the new program, commented, "This is a unique initiative that addresses the needs of global companies with substantial business on both sides of the Atlantic. At WPP, our key people must operate with ease in diverse cultures and environments. This program will provide the ideal recruits to do this."
