Prince Andrew, Duke of York, visited Low Library on Mon., Oct. 30, and was greeted by President George Rupp, Provost Jonathan Cole, and Assistant Archivist Jocelyn Wilk. He viewed the 1754 Royal Charter granted by King George II, establishing King's College, which was renamed Columbia College in 1784 and Columbia University in 1896.

Other replicas and historic items he viewed included memorabilia from the 1939 visit of his grandparents (King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, now the Queen Mother) to Columbia. These were displayed in the King's College Room, which resembles a room in an 18th century home.

The viewing was followed by a lunch hosted by President Rupp in the Burden Room.
