Political Science Fellowships

On November 10, 2014, PSSA hosted Dean Scott Carpenter and Jodi Zaffino from Columbia University’s Office of Global Programs. PSSA members learned about the potential to help finance their education with fellowships in the United States and abroad.

PSSA Climate Change Panel

On Tuesday September 30, 2014, PSSA hosted, "A Conversation on Climate Change: Where Do We Stand?" featuring Columbia Law School Environmental Law School Professor Michael Gerrard and Earth Institute Faculty Member and Co-Director of the Undergraduate Sustainable Development Program Jason Smerdon. On the heel’s of the People’s Climate March, the world’s largest climate march, students learned more about the facts of climate change and how they can make a difference.

Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee

On October 8, 2014 the PSSA hosted Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee. After a large speaking event, a small group of PSSA members had the opportunity to sit down with Governor Chafee and discuss current events, democratic participation, and climate change.

First Year Seminar

Faculty from Columbia’s Political Science department came to an informal seminar on “why study political science?” First year students enjoyed pizza while they got all their questions about the department answered.

Alumni Event

PSSA was happy to host Jay Lefkowitz, Julie Menin, and Hope Glassberg, all of whom are involved in politics and the making of policies at various levels, for a moderated Q&A with PSSA Treasurer Sean Choi.

Jay Lefkowitz is currently lawyer at Kirkland & Ellis, but spent time in the White House under George W. Bush as deputy director of domestic policy, then later was a Special Envoy for Human Rights in North Korea. He also teaches at the law school about the Supreme Court.

Julie Menin is currently the Commissioner of the NYC Department of Consumer and has held various roles in local New York City government including the former Chairperson of Community Board 1 in downtown.

Hope Glassberg is Senior Proeject Manager and Policy Advisor at Montefiore Medical Center's Care Management Company. Previously, she served as the Special Assistant to the Director of the Center for Medicaid at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and has worked as a freelance writer for The New Republic and the New York Times.
