Posting your PPT Presentation online as a website:
- use this method if you want to be able to view your presentation
online
- open your presentation in powerpoint
- go to "File" and select "save as webpage."
- replace ".ppt" at the end of the presentation filename
with ".html"
- save this file in the "guests save files here" folder
on the desktop
- go to the apple menu, open Fetch, and enter your user ID and password
- double click on the "Shared Folder" icon on the desktop
- drag your presentation.html and presentation_files folder (this
folder was automatically created when you saved your presentation
as a webpage) into your public_html directory in Fetch.
- select your presentation.html file in your public_html dir by clicking
on it once, go to "remote" in the taskbar, select "Set
Permissions...", and check all of the leftmost, topmost, and
rightmost boxes (this will give everyone permission to read and execute
your webpage while also giving you permission to write/change it)
- double click on the presentation_files folder in your public_html
dir, go to "Edit" and "Select All," then go to
"Remote," select "Set Permissions...," and again
check all of the leftmost, topmost, and rightmost boxes.
- to view your presentation online simply go to: www.columbia.edu/~your_user_id/name_of_your_presentation.html
(ie: www.columbia.edu/~rcg16/test.html)
NOTE: Unfortunately, your animations will not
be preserved unless you create and view your online ppt presentation
on a PC.
WARNING: Unless you properly set the permissions
(so that everyone has permission to read your webpage) - you will receive
an error message when you try to view your webpage
online.
