Grading

Homework: 30%
Ten sets of homework problems will be assigned -- usually due Thursdays and Mondays. Each set is worth three points. Because the primary purpose of the homework is to help you stay abreast of topics as we cover them, each homework must be turned in no later than the beginning of the class when it is due. Late homeworks will be deducted one point per day. You are encouraged to form study groups. Working together on homework is a good idea; outright copying is not. The work you turn in should indicate your own ability to solve the problems.

Tests: 70%
There are two tests, each worth 35%. They will not be cumulative. Questions may come from the lectures, the labs, or the text. Three formats of questions are likely: 1) computational problems to be solved by hand (bring your calculator), 2) conceptual short answer questions, 3) questions with accompanying datasets to be analyzed in SPSS.

The first test will be on Thursday, June 9; the second test will be on Thursday, June 30. Each exam will be 3 hours. You should plan to arrive one hour before or stay one hour after our regular class time on exam days. If you know that you will be absent on either of these days, please speak to us as soon as possible. Otherwise, if you miss a test because you are sick or for some other non-trivial reason, please notify us as soon afterward as possible and arrange to take a make-up test. You may be asked to bring a note from a physician or a dean.
