TA Privileges

and how to get them

1. Library

Officer ID prevents fines for overdue books (with some exceptions). For full details, read about Student Officer Borrowing on LibraryWeb. HOW: get a letter from the department administrator attesting to your status, and then use it to get a Teaching Officer ID card from the ID center.

2. Computer

Provision of additional memory on cunix system (your e-mail account), free printing of 100 pages a week from network printers. HOW: get the signature of the course's professor on a form provided by ACIS. Follow this link.

3. Copying

Copying handouts, exams, transparencies, articles for reserve.

  1. Do-it-yourself jobs using the 4th floor copy machine. HOW: see Winnie McClarin.
  2. Copies to be done by the 406 staff (e.g., exams) usually require 24-hour notice. HOW: complete a request form available in 406 and leave it, along with your originals, in the specially marked box there.
  3. CopyQuick, for all large jobs except exams. HOW: get authorization form from Winnie McClarin..

4. Desk Copies of Textbooks

Teaching Assistants receive free copies of all required reading materials. These materials should be available at least a week before the course begins. HOW: Publishing houses usually provide desk copies of textbooks; contact the textbook publisher to find out what the procedure is and then enlist the assistance of the professor (e.g., if an email from the professor is required). Teaching assistants should not be asked to pay for any course materials.

5. Key to Podium in Electronic Classroom (501, 614, or 558)

Teaching Assistants receive a free copy of the key to the electronic podium in their classroom. HOW: Complete the electronic training session during the week prior to the start of classes. The training schedule will be sent to the professor; be sure to ask the prof to send you the schedule.

6. Key to Podium in Teaching Lab (200b or 200c)

Teaching Assistants who need it will be given access to the key to the electronic podium, and other A/V equipment, in 200b or 200c. HOW: Contact Phredd Groves or the 200bc lab manager or one of the 200bc lab TAs for a brief training session.
