 SECURITY ALERT - BICYCLE LARCENY May 12, 2013

On May 12, 2013, at 7:24 p.m. a student's bike was stolen from Amsterdam Ave. and W. 117 St. Video review shows the male in the photos below, riding off on the victim's bike. The same suspect attempted to steal a bike from the area of W. 116 St. and Broadway on March 29, 2013, and later the same day, stole a bike near W. 119 St. and Claremont Ave. If anyone has information about these crimes or this suspect, contact the undersigned. Remember to utilize a U-shape type lock to secure your frame and tire to a bolted down bike rack.

 SECURITY ALERT - BICYCLE LARCENY April 17, 2013

On April 17, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., the males shown in the photos below, stole a bicycle that was locked to a rack at W. 117 St. and Amsterdam Ave. If you have any information concerning this crime, or if you see these suspects on or near campus, call Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

 SECURITY ALERT - Burglary April 20, 2013 UPDATE! - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On April 20, 2013 between 8 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. the male shown below is observed on several floors in Kent Hall, entering offices. The staff reported to Public Safety that a number of items were removed from the offices that the male entered. If you have any information about this individual, or this crime, contact the 26 Pct.  SECURITY ALERT - Larceny March 21, 2013 UPDATE! - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On March 21, 2013 at 12:58 p.m., the male shown in the photo, stole a handtruck from the 4th floor lobby of Mudd. The male walked off campus and then south on Amsterdam Ave. If you have any information regarding this crime, or the person responsible, contact the undersigned.

 SECURITY ALERT - Larcenies March 06, 2013

On March 6, 2013 between 2 and 2:30 p.m., the subject in the photos below stole two laptops. The first was stolen from the 4th floor of SIPA and the second from the Avery Library. The male was observed on video using crutches in today's thefts. If you observe this male contact Public Safety immediately, at 212-854-5555. Additionally, we have added a picture of the same suspect from a theft in February.

 SECURITY ALERT - Larceny February 25, 2013

On January 4th & February 4th, 2013 and June 11th & 21st, 2012 on the Black building 1st, 3rd, 4th and 8th floors, the male shown below was observed in the vicinity of reported incidents involving the theft of property (cell phones, purses, laptop) from unattended/unsecured office and lab areas.  SECURITY ALERT - Larceny February 17, 2013

On February 17, 2013 a student reported that someone stole her wallet, while she was in the East Asian Library in Kent Hall. Her credit cards were used in two local stores. Video in one of the stores, shows the male in the photo below, using her credit card for a purchase. The NYPD is looking to identify this male.  SECURITY ALERT - Robbery January 24, 2013

On January 24, 2013 at 10:21 p.m. a female student was accosted and robbed in front of 560 Riverside Drive, as she was walking south on Riverside Drive. The victim was returning from shopping when two males grabbed her from behind, threw her to the ground and removed her property. The males fled north to W. 125 St., and then ran towards Broadway. The males appear to be in their late teens and dressed in dark clothing. Shown below is one of the males responsible for the robbery, carrying the victim's bag.  SECURITY ALERT - Bike Theft January 22, 2013

On January 22, 2013 at 2:44 p.m. the male shown in the photos below, stole a bike, that had been parked near the gate at Broadway and W. 116St.

If you have any information about this crime, contact the undersigned. Remember to utilize U-type bicycle locks, securing both the wheel and frame to a bicycle rack. Avoid using the cable type of lock that can be easily cut by a thief.

 SECURITY ALERT - Larceny January 12, 2013

On January 12, 2013 at 5:08 p.m., the male in the photos below, is observed stealing an unattended laptop, from the first floor lobby of the Law School. A male seated in the lobby opened the front door to the Law School, allowing the suspect access to the locked building.

 SECURITY ALERT - Attempted Robbery/ Assault December 22, 2012

On December 22, 2012 at about 7:00 p.m., a male was the victim of an assault and attempted robbery, as he entered his apartment building on W. 115 St. between Amsterdam Ave. and Morningside Drive. Two suspects, one of whom is pictured below, followed the male in the area of W. 115 St. and Amsterdam Ave. and when he entered his vestibule, they followed him in, punched him, knocking him to the ground and attempted to remove his property. The suspects fled on foot into Morningside Park.

A description of the second suspect, not shown in the photo, is as follows:

Male/ black/ early 20's/ 6'/ medium complexion, wearing a shiny dark bubble jacket, a hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, dark shoes and a hat.

 SECURITY ALERT - Larceny December 17, 2012

On December 17, 2012 at about 4:10 p.m., property was stolen from an office in the Law School. The male shown in the photo is observed on a number of cameras, walking the halls of the Law School, and looking in different offices. He is later observed on video, using credit cards stolen from an employee in the Law School. Additional review shows this male in Business/ Law just prior to entering the Law School.  SECURITY ALERT - Phone Snatch December 18, 2012

On December 18, 2012 at about 2:10 p.m. a female was the victim of a phone snatch as she walked south on Riverside Drive near Sakura Park at W. 122 St. The victim was approached by the suspect who demanded her phone. A struggle for the phone took place and the suspect took the phone and went north on Riverside Drive, where he entered a white sedan and left the area. The victim provided the following description of the suspect:

Male/black/medium complexion/28-33 yrs/5'8"-9"/160lbs/wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, a white shirt, light blue jeans and white sneakers.

 SECURITY ALERT - Robbery December 09, 2012

On December 09, 2012 at approximately 9:10 PM on W 170 Street between Haven and Fort Washington Avenues, an affiliate reports while walking east and listening to music on an I Phone, an unknown male approached, displayed a knife and removed the phone from her hand. The male fled east towards Fort Washington Avenue. Public Safety and NYPD personnel responded and conducted a canvass of the area with negative results. There were no reported injuries.<\p>

The following description was provided by the victim;<\p>

Male (dark complexion), 18-20 years old, 5'05" wearing a dark jacket and light pants, armed with a knife.<\p>

Please use caution and be aware of your surroundings while walking in public and using or listening to electronic devices with headphones.<\p>

 SECURITY ALERT - Bike Theft December 06, 2012 UPDATE! - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On December 5, 2012 at about 10:36 p.m., the male shown in the photo below, removed a bicycle from the hallway of an apartment building on W. 111 St. between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. It appears from the video that the suspect may have been delivering food to a tenant in the building, just prior to the theft.  SECURITY ALERT - ARMED ROBBERY November 15, 2012

On November 15, 2012, at about 7:30 p.m., a Teachers College student was the victim of a gunpoint robbery in Morningside Park. The student entered the park at W. 120 St. and was accosted by a male who grabbed her around the shoulder and displaying a gun, demanded her property. The victim ran out of the park, and the suspect fled in an unknown direction.

The following description was supplied by the victim: Male /black/ dark complexion/35-40 yrs/6'-6'4"/220-250lbs/ wearing a dark jacket with hood and blue jeans.

 SECURITY ALERT - ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY November 15, 2012

On November 15th, 2012 at approximately 8:15 PM, in the vicinity of Ft. Washington Ave and W173 St, a Columbia University student was the victim of an attempted armed robbery. The victim had walked northbound when he was encircled by 3 suspects. Suspect #1 displayed a handgun while suspect #2 attempted to remove the backpack. The Student immediately fled the scene. The student was not injured and his property was not taken.

The following descriptions were given by the victim. Suspect #1 with black handgun - male/ light skin hispanic-black/ 15-16yrs /5'7"/ wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and dark jacket. Suspect #2 - male/ medium skin hispanic-black/15-16 yrs/5"7'/wearing dark clothes. Suspect #3 - male / dark skin hispanic-black/15-16 yrs/5'7"/wearing dark clothes.

If you have any information about this incident, or you observe anyone acting in a suspicious manner, or you feel threatened in any way, call the Police immediately by dialing 911.

 SECURITY ALERT - Forcible Touching November 16, 2012

On November 16, 2012 at about 1:54 a.m. a student was followed, by the male shown in the photos below, as she walked towards her dormitory. Near W.115 St and Riverside Drive, he approached her from behind, grabbed her, and then fled east on W. 115St. towards Broadway. If you have any information about this crime, contact the undersigned. Remember to remain aware of your surroundings when traveling alone at night. Use the Columbia University shuttle service or the Public Safety walking escort service, whenever possible.

 SECURITY ALERT - Bike Thefts October 31, 2012

On October 31, 2012 at 10:51 p.m., the male shown in the photos below stole a bicycle and bicycle parts, from a bike rack in front of Dodge Hall. This male has been involved in numerous bicycle thefts on Columbia University property. Please lock your bikes securely and if you observe this male on campus, notify Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

 SECURITY ALERT - Larceny October 16, 2012 UPDATE! - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On October 16, 2012 at about 4 p.m. a student reported that his property was removed from a locker in Dodge Gym. Shortly thereafter, the male, shown below, used the victim's CUID to purchase food in Lerner Café 212. He then returned to Dodge Gym and used the student's card to gain access.  SECURITY ALERT - Robbery October 17, 2012

On October 17, 2012 at approximately 11:00 PM, in the vicinity of W 172 St from Ft. Washington Ave to Broadway, a Columbia University Student was the victim of a Robbery of her cell phone. The victim was talking on her cell phone when the Suspect came from behind, pushed her, and forcibly stole her cell phone. The Suspect fled eastbound on W 172 St and then northbound on Broadway. The Public Safety Department is working with the NYPD on this crime.The following description was given by the NYPD.

Suspect - Male/Light Skin Hispanic/5'7"/bearded/wearing a black baseball cap/hooded black jacket/black jeans.

 SECURITY ALERT - Sex Abuse  September 29, 2012

On September 29, 2012 at about 3:54 a.m., the male shown in the photos below, followed a woman into her apartment house lobby on W. 112 St. between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. The suspect grabbed the victim and threw her to the ground. He fled west on W.112 St to Broadway. The victim supplied the following description: Male/ dark complexion/5'10".

When traveling alone, if you encounter someone acting in a suspicious manner, call the police immediately at 911. If you are on campus, call Public Safety at 212-854-5555.

 SECURITY ALERT - Burglary  September 18, 2012 UPDATE! - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On September 18th, 2012 an affiliate reported that an unknown suspect entered and removed property from a secured suite inside of Lewisohn Hall between 6:00pm on September 17th and 8:00am on September 18th.  A CCTV review shows the identified male, John Morales (Know PNG), inside the building.  He is also a person of interest for a larceny incident inside Lewisohn Hall on September 16th.

 SECURITY ALERT - Burglary  August 24, 2012

On August 24, 2012 a tenant in 560 Riverside Drive reported that over a four week period, someone had entered his apartment and removed property. The NYPD responded and conducted an investigation. It is unclear how the thief entered the apartment, there was no signs of forced entry. However, the tenant reported that the window blinds facing the hallway were rearranged.

The male shown in the photos below is wanted for several thefts on the Morningside campus. On august 16, 2012, he stole a laptop in Schemerhorn. On August 20, 2012, he stole an I-Phone in CEPSR. On August 23, 2012 he stole an I-Phone in Fairchild. If seen on campus, notify Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

 SECURITY ALERT - Forcible Touching  August 18, 2012

On August 18, 2012 at about 2:10 p.m. a student reported that a male grabbed her and kissed her, without permission. The incident occurred on the northwest corner of W. 116 St. and Broadway. The suspect had engaged the victim in conversation as she was walking through campus. After the incident, he fled into the subway at W. 116 St. and Broadway.

The victim described the suspect as follows: Male/ Hispanic/medium complexion/50 yrs/5'7"/150lbs/short black hair/wearing dark sunglasses/brown shirt and jeans.

 SECURITY ALERT - Attempted Robbery UPDATE! - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On July 02, 2012 at 11:30 PM outside 106 Haven Avenue, a student reports two unidentified suspects attempted to forcibly remove a cell phone from her hand while she was walking north. A CCTV review reveals the suspects below approach from behind and fled towards W. 171 Street. A report was filed with the 33rd Precinct Detective Squad, who is seeking to identify them.

 SECURITY ALERT - Grand Larceny  August 1, 2012

On August 01, 2012 at 8:00 PM in the vicinity of 80 Haven Avenue, a NYSPI employee reports that a cell phone was removed from her hand as she was walking towards 100 Haven Avenue. A CCTV review shows the two unidentified males, acting in concert, remove the phone and run north on Haven Avenue and east on 171 Street. A report was filed with the 33rd Precinct Detective Squad, who is seeking to identify them.

 SECURITY ALERT - July 29, 2012

On July 29, 2012, a student reports while jogging on the Henry Hudson Greenway (waterfront) between W 130th Street and W 165th Street at 12:30 PM, an unknown male placed his arm around the waist of the student which caused alarm and concern. The student was able to break away and exit at W 165th Street where the male had continued to follow and was last observed. The student contacted Public Safety immediately after the incident which was reported to the NYPD 33rd precinct. It is unknown if the suspect spoke due to the student wearing ear buds.

 SECURITY ALERT - Larceny  June 21, 2012

On June 21, 2012 at 4:27 p.m., the male shown in the photo below, entered an office on the 5th floor of the Law School. The victim in the case returned a moment later and discovered property missing from the office. The subject is observed on several video cameras walking through the hallways and looking into offices. If you have any information concerning this subject's identity, notify Columbia University Public Safety.

 SECURITY ALERT - Homicide  June 7, 2012 

On Thursday June 7, 2012 at about 1745 hours on W. 122 St., between Claremont Avenue and Broadway, inside of a 2009 black BMW, three non- affiliate males were shot by the male shown in the photos below causing their death.

 SECURITY ALERT - Intruder  May 23, 2012

On May 23, 2012 at about 1:15 a.m. the male shown In the photo attempted to gain access to 560 Riverside Drive. He was confronted by the doorperson who refused to allow him access. The same male went into 530 Riverside Drive, gained access to the building by ringing doorbells, and entered an unlocked apartment. He was confronted by the tenant, and he left the building. If you see this person call Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

Be sure to keep your aprtment doors locked at all times and do not grant access to anyone ringing doorbells unless you verify their identity.

 SECURITY ALERT - ARMED ROBBERY  May 16, 2012

The New York City Police Department has notified us that on May 16th, 2012 at approximately 12:05 AM, in 106 Ft Washington Ave at W 164th St, a Non-Affiliate was the victim of a Gunpoint Robbery of her bag and cell phone. The victim was followed from the Bank of America on Broadway and W 171st St after she had withdrawn a sum of money. Upon entering her building lobby, Suspect #1 displayed a handgun and removed her property. Suspect #2 acted as a lookout as the crime was committed. Both Suspects fled southbound on Ft. Washington Ave.

 SECURITY ALERT - ARMED ROBBERY  April 30, 2012

On April 30, 2012 at about 12:18 a.m. two students were robbed as they were walking through Morningside Park. The victims were accosted by a group of five-six males. One of the suspects displayed a handgun. The suspects took property from both victims, and fled in an unknown direction. One victim described the male with the gun as being in his twenties, dark skinned, and about 5’5” in height. She described the others as being in their twenties and dark skinned.

 Security Alert - Cell Phone Theft  April 16, 2012

The New York City Police Department reports the theft of a cell phone from a person that occurred on April 16, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the bus stop next to 390 Fort Washington Avenue. A CCTV review captures the unidentified male shown below remove an I-Phone from the hands of a non-affiliate waiting for the bus. The male fled west on 177 Street. Anyone with additional information or knows the identity of this individual should contact Detective Adam Tegan of the 33rd Precinct Detectives at 212.927.3780 or Public Safety Investigations.

 Security Alert - Robbery  April 14, 2012

On April 14, 2012 at about 4:10 a.m., a student reported that he was assaulted and robbed as he was walking south on Claremont Ave. near LaSalle St. The victim reported that a male accosted him, demanded his property and knocked him to the ground. The victim was able to flee and call the police. The victim provided the following description: Male/ dark skinned/ 6'/slim build/ wearing a Cincinnati baseball cap and dark clothing.  Security Alert - ATTEMPTED SEXUAL ASSAULT  April 13, 2012

The New York City Police Department has reported that on April 13, 2012 at about 6:00 p.m. a female jogger was the victim of an attempted sexual assault in Riverside Park near W. 119ST. The victim reported that she was jogging in the park and was accosted by a male, who attempted to sexually assault her. She was able to fight the victim off and he fled south out of Riverside Park. The police provided the following description of the suspect: Male/ Hispanic /25-30yrs/light complexion/5'8"/stocky build/wearing a dark baseball hat, grey sweatshirt, blue jeans and a dark backpack with thin straps.  Security Alert - Phone Snatch  February 24, 2012 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

At 1:53 p.m., on February 24, 2012 the female shown in this photo, accosted a woman on the steps of an apartment house on W. 113 St. between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. the suspect grabbed the victim's phone and ran towards Amsterdam Ave. the suspect eventually entered a cab at w. 116 st. and Amsterdam ave, heading north.  Security Alert - Attempted Robbery  February 20, 2012

On February 19, 2012 at approximately 9:00 PM, in the vicinity of Ft Washington Ave and W 170 St a Columbia University Nursing Student was the victim of an attempted Robbery of her cell phone. The victim was talking on her cell phone when Suspect #1 grabbed her hand and phone from behind. A struggle ensued and the Suspect fled northbound on Ft. Washington Ave. Suspect #2 fled alongside Suspect #1. The Public Safety Department is working with the NYPD on this crime.

The following descriptions were given by the victim and a witness.

Suspect #1 - Male/Black or Hispanic/5'6"/teen/small build/wearing a white hooded sweatshirt.

Suspect #2 - Male/Black or Hispanic/5'9"/teen/slim build/wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt.

 Security Alert - Burglary  February 05, 2012 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On Sunday, February 5, 2012 at about 2:10 a.m. the male shown in the photos below, removed a laptop from the room of a tenant, in an apartment building on W. 112St. between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. The suspect climbed a rear fire escape and removed the laptop from the tenant's apartment. Over the past several days, a number of laptops and other electronic equipment have been reported stolen in East Campus. The Public safety Department is working with the NYPD on these crimes.

 Security Alert - Burglary  January 5, 2012 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

The male shown in the photos below is responsible for several burglaries on the Morningside campus in the last ten days. The suspect has stolen three desktop computers, two from SIPA on one from Mudd. If you observe this person on our property, notify Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

 Security Alert - Robbery  December 22, 2011

On December 20, 2011 at about 9:40 a.m., a student was the victim of an armed robbery in Morningside Park near W. 116St. The victim reports that she was approached by a male who displayed a gun and demanded her property. The victim complied, and after the male took her property, he fled east in Morningside Park. The victim gave the following description to the police:

Male/Black/6'/35-40 yrs/stocky build/ wearing a brown jacket, blue jeans and holding an orange construction helmet.

 Security Alert - Attempted Robbery - November 21, 2011

On November 21, 2011 at about 11:50 p.m., a student was the victim of an attempted robbery on W.114St. between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. The student accompanied by another person was accosted as she was walking on the north side of W.114 St. towards Broadway. The suspect pushed the victim against a fence, threatened her and demanded her I-phone. When the suspect learned she did not have an I- phone, he fled east towards Amsterdam Avenue without taking any property. The suspect is observed on video walking back and forth on W. 114 St. prior to the crime. Moments earlier, he followed a student into Ruggles Hall but left the building immediately. If you observe this person on the street, call the police immediately by dialing 911.
Suspect description:
Male/black/30/5’8/150lbs/wearing a black leather jacket, dark ski cap, blue jeans, dark shoes, a dark shirt or sweater with a white tee shirt underneath.

 Security Alert - Armed Robbery - November 19, 2011

The New York City Police Department has notified us that on November 19, 2011 at about 2:05 a.m., two students were the victim of a robbery on W. 122 St. near Amsterdam Avenue. The victims were talking when they were approached by two males. One of the suspects displayed a firearm, while the second took the purse of one of the victims. The suspects fled south on Amsterdam Ave. in a black sedan.

The Police Department has supplied the following descriptions:

Suspect # 1- Male/Black/5'8"/20's/wearing a dark hooded jacket/light colored baseball cap/jeans/sneakers Displayed a silver automatic.

Suspect # 2- Male/Black/30's/6'-6'3"/medium build/ dark jacket/baseball cap/jeans/sneakers.

 Security Alert - Armed Robbery - November 15, 2011

We have been notified by the NYPD, that on November 12, 2011 at about 7:30 p.m two males were the victim of an attempted robbery in the lobby of a brownstone on W. 114 ST. between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. The suspect shown in the photo below was sitting on the steps of the brownstone and followed the first victim into the hallway. He displayed a gun and demanded the victim's I-phone. When the victim stated he didn't have an I-phone, the male gave it back to him. The second victim entered the hallway and the suspect demanded his I-phone. Once again the suspect handed it back when he found out it was not actually an I-phone. The suspect left the building and fled on foot down Amsterdam Ave.

The following description was given to the police: Male/Black/30 yrs/5'8"/160 lbs/ black hat/green waist length jacket/ blue jeans.

 Security Alert - Larceny - November 11, 2011 - SUSPECT SURRENDERED

On November 9, 2011 at 1:02 p.m. the male shown below picks up a pair of pants from the hallway near the squash court area of Dodge Gym, stuffs the pants under his shirt and immediately leaves the building. If you have any information about this crime or the identity of this individual, contact the undersigned. Please remember to use the lockers provided by the Athletics Department when using the athletic facility.

Updating our alert from November 10, 2011 this photo shows the suspect from the larceny in Dodge Gym accompanied by a second male. These males are now considered suspects in an additional theft which occurred on October 28, 2011 in Dodge Gym. If observed on campus, notify Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

 Security Alert - Larceny - November 02, 2011

On November 2, 2011 at about 6:15 p.m. a student left her wallet unattended near a public computer in Mudd. The male shown in the photo is observed picking up the wallet, and placing it in his bag. The male had been loitering near the public computers for about 15-20 minutes prior to the theft. If you observe the male shown in the photo, contact Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.  Security Alert - Robbery - October 25, 2011

On October 25, 2011 at 10:30 p.m. two students were accosted on W. 114 St. between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. Two males, shown in the photos below, approached the students, displayed a box cutter and demanded that one of the student's turn over his I-phone.  Security Alert - Sexual Assault - October 09, 2011 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On October 9, 2011 at about 6:00 p.m., a female was the victim of a sexual assault, in Morningside Park near W. 118St. The victim was walking in the park when she was approached by the suspect and after a short conversation, was sexually assaulted. The suspect fled on foot, south on Morningside Drive, towards W. 115St.

The suspect is described as: Male/black/medium skin tone/5'8"/150lbs./20's/ last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, black do-rag and jeans.

 Security Alert - Larceny - September 29, 2011 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On September 29, 2011 at 11:35 a.m. the male shown in the photo was observed removing a laptop and additional property from a locker in Uris Hall. The male is wheeling a pull cart, and he is observed placing posters on bulletin boards. If observed on campus, notify Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

 Security Alert - Laptop Thefts - September 12, 2011 - SUSPECTS APPREHENDED

In the last week there have been several reports of laptop thefts, and the thefts of other small portable electronic devices from Greek houses on W. 114St., and from the Hartley Residence Hall. Each of the thefts has occurred in rooms that are unlocked. Witnesses and victims have supplied descriptions of a group of young males accompanied by one female who are present in the houses, but have no apparent affiliation to the University, or any of the building occupants. The losses are discovered after this group leaves the premises.

Please remember to lock your doors when leaving your room, even for short periods of time.

The Department of Public Safety is attempting to identify these individuals who were observed in and around the buildings where the thefts occurred. It is believed they may have valuable information that will assist in solving these crimes. If anyone has information about these witnesses, contact the undersigned.  Security Alert - Armed Robbery - August 29, 2011

The New York City Police Department has notified us that three males were the victims of an armed robbery that occurred on the sidewalk near 535 W. 111ST. The robbery took place on August 26, 2011 at about 9:25 p.m.

The victims were in front of the location when two males approached them, displayed a gun and removed their property. The suspects fled towards Broadway in a black SUV. If you have any information about this crime, contact the 26Pct. Detective Unit at 212-678-1351.

 Security Alert - Assault - July 25, 2011

On July 25, 2011 at about 1:50 a.m. a student reported that he was assaulted on the west side of Broadway near W.119 St. The victim was followed from the area of Broadway and W125St. by a group of five males. They surrounded him and punched him, knocking him to the ground. The suspects fled on foot towards Claremont Ave. and then ran north from W. 120St. If you feel you are being followed or harassed, call 911 immediately.  Security Alert - Robberies - July 06, 2011

The New York City Police Department has notified us that on July 3, 2011 at about 12:40 a.m. a male was robbed on W. 114 St. between Broadway and Riverside Drive. The suspects approached the victim, knocked him to the ground and took his property. The suspects fled on foot towards Broadway. In a second incident reported by the police, on July 5th, at about 9:20p.m. in Riverside Park near W. 116 St., a female was approached by a suspect riding a small BMX bike. The suspect demanded her cell phone and pushed her to the ground.

 Purse Snatch - June 08, 2011

On June 8, 2011 at about 3:40 a.m., a female was the victim of a purse snatch near 566 W. 114 St. The male shown in the photo below, grabbed the victim's purse as she was about to enter the Broadway Residence dormitory.  Larceny - April 27, 2011

On April 27, 2011, Two Columbia University affiliates reported thefts relating to their bikes, which were secured to the bike racks at the Black Building. CCTV review showed the below male remove a tire from one bike, and a bike from another rack. Public Safety is trying to identify the male in question who is believed responsible for multiple bike related thefts on the Medical campus and the Morningside Campus.

 Burglary Alert - April 09, 2011

On Saturday, April 9, 2011 at approximately 6:00 pm, a Columbia University affiliate reported someone removed her unattended laptop from the 4th Library located in the Northwest Corner Building. CCTV review by Investigations showed the below male enter the library's exit passageway, bypassing the turnstile. After 20 minutes of canvassing the library, he removed an IPod from one table and a Laptop from another, then exiting the building down the campus steps to 120th Street, heading east toward Amsterdam Avenue.

 Burglary Alert - April 02, 2011

On Saturday April 2, 2011 at approximately 3:00 pm, a Columbia affiliate reported that someone removed her I Phone from the Mudd 4th Floor Library. On Saturday April 9, 2011 at approximately 1:00 pm, a Columbia University affiliate reported that someone removed her laptop from Schermerhorn 8th Floor. CCTV review showed the below male in the area and or on the campus during the time of both of these incidents. Also several students have advised they confronted a male fitting the below description when he was found going through the students property in the Mudd Library. Public Safety is looking to identify this male and confirm his business on Columbia University property.

 Robbery - January 15, 2011

On Saturday, January 15, 2011, at approximately 1:10pm, a Columbia University student was the victim of an assault and robbery on 113th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.  CCTV review by CU Investigations showed the victim walking south, with the suspect shown below following him from 114th St and Broadway. After the incident, the suspect ran east on 113th Street and then south on  Amsterdam Avenue..

 Larceny - January 12, 2011

On January 12, 2011, at approximately 12:30pm, a Columbia University student reported that an unknown person removed her wallet from her pocketbook which was left unattended at her workstation on SIAP 12th Floor.  A canvas by Public Safety identified a witness who observed a suspicious male lingering near the complainant's workstation.  After a CCTV review by CU Investigations, Public Safety is looking to identify the below male who was identified by the witness as the male observed on the floor...

Burglary - January 1, 2011

On March 16, 2011, a suspect was arrested and charged for the burglary that took place within 538 W. 120 St.

On January 1, 2011 at 9:25pm, a student reported an office in Pupin Hall broken into.  On January 2, 2011 at 5:25am, a Public Safety Officer on patrol discovered an office in Hamilton Hall broken into.  In both incidents, a person gained entry by using a fire extinguisher to break the glass to the main suite door.  Video review by CU Investigations identified the male shown below entering, inside and/or leaving Pupin and Hamilton buildings at the times of incident...

Robbery - October 27, 2010

On October 27, 2010 at about 11:40pm, a student was the victim of an assault and robbery on West 113 Street between Broadway and Riverside Drive.  The victim was approached from behind by the males shown below, punched, knocked to the ground and his property was removed.  The males fled west towards Riverside Drive.

Bike Theft - October 25, 2010

On October 25, 2010 at approximately 8:00pm, a Columbia University affiliate had his bike removed from the bike rack on the eastside of the SIPA doors on top campus.  Another Columbia affiliate had his bike removed from the bike rack in front of Law School on October 27, 2010 at approximately 7:25pm.  CCTV review shows the male below removed the bikes from the area. On October 18, 2010, Public Safety was notified by a Columbia University affiliate that his bike was removed from the bike rack on the east side of Uris.  Upon CCTV review, the male shown below is observed canvassing the area, then removing the bike between 11:00am to 12:00pm.

Forcible Touching  - October 13, 2010

UPDATE October 14, 2010: SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On October 13, 2010 at about 3:10a.m., a student was accosted and grabbed as she was walking on Broadway.  The suspect shown in the photos, attempted to engage the victim in conversation at West 115th Street and Broadway.  He followed her as she walked home and then grabbed her near West 111th Street.  He turned around and walked north and remained in the area for several minutes.  If you have any information about this incident or the suspect, contact the undersigned immediately.  If you see this suspect, call the police immediately at 911.

Robbery - September 29, 2010

On September 29, 2010 at about 9:12PM, a student was the victim of a cell phone snatch on W. 116 St at the Wien Gate.  The student was followed by two males shown below, who accosted her from behind, and grabbed her cell phone as she was entering the Wien Gate.  The victim struggled with one of the suspects and fell to the ground.  The suspects fled towards Morningside Drive, and then into Morningside Park.

Grand Larceny -iPhone Snatched - August 30, 2010

On August 30, 2010 at approximately 10:50AM, a Columbia University affiliate was walking past the Irving Cancer Research Center/Audubon 3, while talking on his iPhone, a male came up behind him and snatched the phone from his hands and ran East on 166th Street.  CCTV review shows the victim starting to be followed while passing the front of 622 West 168 Street/PH entrance.

Description based off victim and CCTV review:  male black/dark complexion/20 to 23 years of age/muscular build/5'10" tall/last seen wearing a light blue polo shirt/dark khaki shorts and dark sneakers.

Robbery - August  8, 2010

On August 8, 2010 at about 1:30a.m., a male committed two robberies on West 110 Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.  In the first incident, the suspect approached two males, displayed a gun, and took property from one of the victims.  In the second incident, a moment later, a female was accosted by the same male, displaying a gun.  When the victim resisted, the suspect punched the victim and knocked her to the ground.

The victims supplied the following description:  Male/black/dark complexion/30's/6'/300lbs/stubble on face/red baseball cap/white T-shirt/dark pants.  The suspect fled in a white car which was double parked at the scene.

Robbery - July 28, 2010

On July 28, 2010 at about 3:05am, a student was robbed as he sat on a bench on Morningside Drive and West 119th Street.  he was approached by a group of four males who stole his cell phone and iPod.  The suspects fled on foot, north on Morningside Drive, after robbery.

Assault - July 7, 2010

On Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at about 10:20pm, a male Columbia University affiliate was the victim of an assault on the corner of West 121nd Street and Broadway. The victim was chased by a group of males who attacked him from behind, knocking him to the ground then punching him about the head and body.  The victim was unable to furnish a description of his attackers.

Assault - July 5, 2010

On Monday, July 5, 2010, a female jogger / Columbia University affiliate was the victim of an assault while running within Riverside Park.  The assault occurred between the hours of 5:30am and 6:30am in the vicinity of the tennis courts in the area of 119th Street.

Bike Theft - June 22, 2010

UPDATE:  SUSPECT APPREHENDED ON 7/22/2010

On June 22, 2010 at approximately 12:10 p.m., a Columbia University affiliate had his bike removed from the bike rack on the eastside of Uris Hall.  CCTV review shows the male below removed the bike from the area.

Robbery - May 29, 2010

On May 29, 2010 at approximately 12:40 a.m., a Columbia University student reported being a victim of a robbery on 115th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.  The victim stated that a male came up from behind her and forcibly removed her property, and then fled towards Morningside Park. Columbia University Public Safety is attempting to identify the two males in the photos, who may have important information about this crime.

Robbery - May 16, 2010

On Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 11:20pm, a Columbia University student reported being a victim of an assault and robbery in front of 100 Haven Avenue by three (3) males. The victim was assaulted and his iPod was removed. On April 21, 2010 at about 2:30 p.m., the male shown in the photo, stole a laptop from the lobby of Uris Hall.  The victim had stepped away from his property to make a phone call, and the subject picked up the laptop and left the area.

Phone Snatch Alert W 113th St. - January 26, 2010

On Friday, January 22, 2010, at approximately 2:30 pm, A Columbia
University affiliate reports that while walking south on Broadway near
W.113th St., the male shown in this alert, snatched the phone out of her hands
and ran east on 113th St. Video showed the subject in the area for
approximately 20 minutes prior to the incident.

Robbery Alert - January 25, 2010

On Saturday, January 23, 2010 at approximately 6:00 pm, a Columbia University medical student reports he was a victim of a Robbery on 169th Street between Broadway and Fort Washington Avenues. The student was approached by two males, one claiming to have a firearm, demanding his phone. The suspects fled east toward Broadway. The student reported no injuries.

Robbery Alert -  January 13, 2010

The New York City Police Department has notified us that on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at approximately 2:15 am, a non affiliate reported that while walking south on Fort Washington Avenue between 168th Street and 165th Street, a male exited a vehicle, came up to him, displayed a handgun and demanded his property. The suspect went back to his vehicle that was driven by a second person and was observed driving towards Riverside Drive. No injuries were reported.
