Robbery Alert - Woodbridge Hall -  November 6, 2009

On November 6, 2009 at about 2:40 p.m. the male shown in this alert, followed a student into the vestibule of Woodbridge Hall and stole his i-pod. The male followed the victim from the area of Broadway and W. 115 St, and engaged him in conversation prior to following him into the vestibule. The suspect fled north to W. 116 St. and turned east towards Claremont Ave.

Robbery Alert - Morningside Ave & W 114TH ST -  November 4, 2009

On October 31, 2009, at about 9:30 p.m. a student was robbed as he walked on Morningside Ave. near W. 114 St. The victim was approached from behind by two males who knocked him to the ground and removed his wallet and I-Phone. The pair fled on foot, before the victim could get a good description of the suspects.

Robbery Alert - Riverside Park - November 2, 2009

On November 2, 2009 at about 6:00 pm, a Columbia University affiliate was the victim of a gun point robbery while he was walking along the foot path on the lower level of Riverside Park adjacent near W. 116th Street. Two males approached the affiliate when he was talking on his cell phone, suspect # 1, brandished a handgun demanding his property; suspect # 2 was acting as a lookout during incident. Both fled south after the incident.

Suspicious Person - SIPA -  October 26, 2009

On Monday October 26, 2009, at about 4:40 p.m., an employee reported that the male shown in this alert, followed her into the ladies room on the 6th floor of SIPA. The male went into a stall and looked over the wall at the victim. He then fled out of the building from the 6th floor exit. If you see this male on campus, call Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

Bike Theft - Near John Jay Gate - October 24, 2009

On October 24, 2009, at approximately 1:00 pm, A Columbia
University affiliate reported someone removed her bike parked on
114th Street near the John Jay Gate. CCTV review reveals the
male shown in this alert, canvassing bikes then removing the bike in
question. Public Safety is attempting to identify this male.

Backpack Theft - Lerner Hall-  October 26, 2009

On October 26, 2009, at approximately 12:30pm, A Columbia
University affiliate reported that someone removed her backpack,
from Café 212 in Lerner Hall. CCTV review shows the male in this alert
remove the bag from the area. Public Safety is attempting to
identify this male; anyone with additional information is urged to
contact the Public Saftey Department.

Bike Theft - Law Annex-  October 22, 2009

On October 18, 2009, at approximately 1:50 pm, A Delivery
person reported someone removed his unsecured bike parked in
the courtyard near East Campus. CCTV review shows two males
in the photos below, canvassing bikes then removing the
unsecured bike. Public Safety is attempting to identify these
males; anyone with additional information is urged to contact Public Safety.

Bike Theft -  October 20, 2009

On October 19, 2009, at approximately 4:40 to 5:05 pm, A Columbia University affiliate reported that someone removed her bike, which had been secured in front of 544 W. 110th St. CCTV review shows the male in the photos in this alert, removing the bike from the bike rack. Public Safety is attempting to identify this male; anyone with additional information is urged to contact Public Safety.

Bike Theft-  October 12, 2009

On October 12, 2009, at approximately 9:10 am, A Columbia
University affiliate reported that someone removed her bike,
which had been secured near Journalism. CCTV review shows the
male in the photos in this alert, removing the bike from campus. Public
Safety is attempting to identify this male; anyone with additional
information is urged to contact Columbia University Public Safety

Larceny Alert -  October 6, 2009

On October 5, 2009, at about 7:30 p.m., the males shown below,
removed two backpacks that were left unattended on the sidewalk near
Miller Theater at 117th Street and Broadway. The males fled north on
Broadway after taking the bags. Columbia University Public Safety is looking to identify the individuals in this alert.

Bike Thefts -  October 5, 2009

On September 22, 2009, and on October 3rd, 2009, the male shown
in this alert stole at least two bicycles belonging to Columbia University
affiliates. Video review showed the male removing the bicycles in both
incidents.

Remeber, Do not use cable locks to secure your bike. A good U-lock which secures the bicycle frame and tire to a bolted down bike rack is recommended!

Robbery Alert Broadway & W 167TH ST-  October 5, 2009

On Friday, October 2, 2009 at approximately 8:30 pm, a Columbia University affiliate reports that while walking, and texting on the Westside of Broadway near W. 167St., a male came up behind her, snatched her cell phone and knocked her to the ground. The suspect fled on foot.

Bike Thefts -  October 2, 2009

Over the last two months, Public Safety has been notified of several bike thefts. Several of these subjects have been observed on video, two others have been arrested.
The photos in this alert are of persons either observed removing or attempting to remove bicycles on or around both campuses.

Armed Robbery -  September 25, 2009

On September 25, 2009, at approximately 9:00 p.m.,
two students were the victim of an armed robbery. The students reported that they were sitting in Riverside Park between W. 115 St. and W. 116 St., when a group of males approached them and asked them where they could buy weed. One of the suspects then displayed a black semi-automatic pistol. One victim was punched in the face, as the group removed their property. The suspects fled on foot.

Arrest of Burglary Suspect -  September 10, 2009

On Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at approximately 1:00 pm., a Columbia University affiliate  reported that an unknown person, without permission or authority, removed her wallet from her unattended bag, on the 3rd Floor of Uris Hall.   On September 10, 2009, this suspect was arrested by the 26 Pct. On September 7, 2009, at about 1:30 a.m., a Columbia University affiliate reported that the male shown below, followed her into a building on West 115th Street between Broadway and Riverside Drive. Once inside, he began trying to open doors in the building.

Attempted Robbery - Riverside Drive Near  Riverside Church - August  17, 2009

On August 17, 2009, shortly after midnight, a female student was the victim of an attempted robbery as she walked north on Riverside Drive, near Riverside Church. The suspects approached the victim from behind, and attempted to remove her pocketbook.

On August 2, 2009 at about 8:40 p.m., a student was assaulted at W. 119 St. and Morningside Drive.  The student was walking, when he was approached from behind by three males, who punched him in the back of the head.
