 CRIME ALERT - Fraud October 14, 2014

On September 26, 2014 at about 8:50 P.M. and October 21, 2014 at about 2:50 P.M. at W. 113 Street and Broadway two affiliates were the victims of a money order scam. The males seen in the photos below convinced the victims to deposit a fraudulent money order into the victims’ bank account, withdraw cash and give the cash to the males.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny October 14, 2014 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On October 14th, 2014 at approximately 5:15 PM from the Black building bike rack on Fort Washington Avenue, the unidentified male shown below removed a bike seat from a secured bike belonging to an affiliate. Anyone who knows the identity of this individual or observes him should contact Public Safety at 212-305-7979 and the undersigned. This incident was reported to the NYPD 33rd precinct. Remember

 CRIME ALERT - Sexual Assault October 12, 2014

On Tuesday October 14th, 2014, the New York City Police Department Special Victims Division reports that on Sunday October 12, 2014 at approximately 4:15 A.M., a Columbia University student was the victim of an alleged sexual assault in her residence on 114th Street.

 CRIME ALERT - Fraud October 9, 2014

On October 9th, 2014 two students were victim to a fraud/ scam. The first victim was approached at 120th Street & Broadway at 11:30 am by a Black Ford Explorer pictured below with a male white occupant. The second incident happened at 120th Street & Morningside Drive at 12:30pm. The second victim was approached by a brown Hyundai Sante Fe, also occupied by a male white. Both subjects told the students that they were from Italy and needed money for various reasons. They told the students it would be repaid and gave them some clothing to have in good faith. Both students gave US currency to the subjects. If either vehicle is spotted or you are approached and someone tries to engage you in a similar conversation, please call 911 or Public Safety emergency number 212-854-5555

 CRIME ALERT - Bike Theft October 7, 2014

On October 7, 2014, at approximately 2:55 am, a Columbia University affiliate had his bike removed from the Broadway 115 Street Lerner Entrance. CCTV review shows the male the photo below remove the bike.

 CRIME ALERT - Bike Theft October 6, 2014

On October 6, 2014, at approximately 3:20 P.M., a Columbia University affiliate had his bike removed from a bike rack at W. 117 St. and Amsterdam Avenue just south of the SIPA doors. CCTV review shows the males in the photos below remove the bike.

 CRIME ALERT - Attempted Robbery October 3, 2014

On October 3, 2014 at approximately 12:55 A.M. an affiliate was approached by the unknown male in the photos below in the courtyard that leads into 414 West 121 Street and property was demanded from him. The complainant did not comply with the demand and the unknown male fled west bound on 121 street toward Amsterdam Ave. If the male is seen or his identity is known, please call 911 and Public Safety at 212 854-2797.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny September 30, 2014

On September 30th, 2014, at about 4:36 A.M., in front of Butler Hall- 400 W 119 St, the three unidentified males shown below worked in concert to steal a cable locked bicycle. Public Safety Investigations is seeking to identify these males who were recorded on CCTV committing the incident. Anyone who knows the identity of these individuals or observes them should contact Public Safety at (212) 854-2797 and Investigations. Special attention to Butler Hall, and the Wien Courtyard.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny September 20, 2014 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On 09/20/14 at approximately 1:30 P.M. and Affiliate had her bicycle stolen which was locked to a bike stanchion in front of 601 West 168th Street. The unknown male in the photos below did walk up to the bicycle holding a bicycle helmet in his hand. He removes the lock and proceeds to ride off with the bicycle southbound on Broadway. If anybody sees the male or knows who he is, please call Public Safety at 212 305-7979

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny September 18, 2014

On September 18th, and September 21st 2014, at the Hamilton and Wallach Hall Bicycle Racks within the Van Am Quad area, a total of three bicycle cable locks were cut and the three bicycles were removed. The two unidentified men pictured below were recorded removing the bicycles. Public Safety Investigations is seeking to identify these men. Anyone who knows the identity of these men or observes them should contact Public Safety at (212) 854-2797 and Investigations at (212) 854-2054. Special attention to the Wallach and Hamilton Hall bicycle racks.

 CRIME ALERT - Armed Robbery September 22, 2014

On September 22nd, 2014 at approximately 12:10 AM, in front of 12 W 108th St, a student was the victim of a gunpoint robbery of her cell phone. As she walked eastbound along the sidewalk, suspect #1 displayed a handgun and demanded her property. Suspect #2 acted in concert as the crime was committed. The victim surrendered her cell phone without incident. Both suspects fled westbound on W 108 St.

    The following descriptions were given by the victim to the NYPD.
  • Suspect #1 – Male/dark skin/5’8”-5’11”/late teens/wearing a dark shirt, dark pants, and carrying a black handgun.
  • Suspect #2 – Female/dark skin/with pony tail/5’4”-5’6”/late teens/wearing a pink hooded shirt

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny September 18, 2014

On September 18, 2014 at 4:29 p. m., the males shown in the photos below, stole two bicycles that were secured in front of Hamilton Hall. The suspects were observed loitering in the area of Hamilton Hall for about 45 minutes before they clipped the locks. If you observe these individuals on or near campus, call Columbia Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555.Remember to always secure your bike using a good quality lock. Avoid cable locks, which can be easily cut using wire clippers.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny September 16, 2014

On September 16th, 2014 at approximately 8:35 PM, the unidentified male shown below removed an affiliate’s bicycle that was left unsecured against the Black building scaffolding on Fort Washington Avenue (650 W 168 St).  CRIME ALERT - Larceny September 12, 2014 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On September 12, 2014 at approximately 11:55 A.M. the unknown male in the photos below did remove an affiliate’s bike that was locked to scaffolding outside the Black Building/650 West 168th Street.  CRIME ALERT - Burglary September 16, 2014 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On September 16, 2014, at about 11:45 A.M. an affiliate had a bag containing property removed from under her desk in Lewisohn Hall. A review of CCTV shows the male in the photo below enter the affiliates’ office and put the affiliates’ property into his backpack.

 CRIME ALERT - Burglary September 09, 2014 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On September 9, 2014 at 1:29 p.m. the male shown in the photo below entered a suite in Lewisohn Hall and removed property. If observed on or around campus, notify Public Safety immediately at 212-854-5555. If you have any information about this crime or this suspect contact the 26 Pct.  CRIME ALERT - Bike Larceny September 06, 2014

On September 6, 2014 at 7:28 p.m. the two males in the photos shown below, stole a tire from a bike that was secured in front of 632 W. 125 St. One of the suspects used cutters to remove the tire. If you have any information about this crime, or the suspects, contact the undersigned.

 CRIME ALERT - Burglary August 31, 2014

On Sunday August 31st 2014, a Columbia University student was the victim of a Burglary at 18 West 108th Street. The complainant states he left his apt window, which had security bars on it, unlocked and open when he went to bed for the night. When he awoke the next morning he did discover his property was removed out of his apt. The investigation is ongoing by members of Columbia University Public Safety as well as members of the 024 Pct. Detective Squad.

 CRIME ALERT - Forcible Touching August 25, 2014 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On August 25, 2014 at about 9:10 p.m. a student was accosted as she was walking her dog on Amsterdam Ave. near W.113 St. The victim reported that the male described below, approached her and grabbed her. He continued south on Amsterdam Ave. towards W. 112 St.

The victim provided the following description: Male/White/60 yrs/5’8”/thin build/white hair/long white beard/last seen wearing a red T-shirt, black pants and wearing a black medical boot on his foot.

On August 23, 2014 at 12:47 p.m. the male shown in the photo removed property from the cab of a truck, that was unloading on Amsterdam Ave and W. 117 St. If observed on our property, identify and call 911.

 CRIME ALERT - Robbery August 24, 2014

On August 24, 2014 at about 3 am two non-affiliates were robbed while entering 536 West 113th Street. Below is the subject seen on video during the incident. He was wearing black jogging pants with a white stripe, dark baseball cap with logo, black top with white under shirt. Subject flees towards Amsterdam Ave.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny - Pedal Chain August 19, 2014

On August 15th, 2014 at the Audubon 3 building bike rack on W 167 St, an affiliate reports the pedal chain was taken from a secured bicycle. A CCTV review shows the three unidentified males below, acting in concert, remove the pedal chain at 8:35 PM. They fled east towards Audubon Avenue on W 167 Street. Anyone with additional information or knows the identity of these individuals should contact Public Safety Investigations.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny - Bike Seat August 19, 2014

On August 19th, 2014 at the Black building bike rack, an affiliate reports the seat was taken from a secured bicycle. A CCTV review shows the two unidentified males below, acting in concert, remove the seat at 10:48 PM. Both rode east on W 168 Street towards Broadway. Anyone with additional information or knows the identity of these individuals should contact Public Safety Investigations.

 CRIME ALERT - Sexual Assault August 16, 2014

On Saturday August 16th, 2014 at approximately 2:50 am, a Columbia University Affiliate was the victim of a sexual assault. The victim reports to the NYPD that she was followed into the building and when she exits elevator the subject forcibly touches her. The victim describes the subject as a male, unknown age, 5’10” to 6’, slim build, close haircut, dark skinned, wearing dark rimmed glasses, blue hoodie with white strings, grey pantsand white sneakers. Subject then fled building.

 CRIME ALERT - Attempted Larceny August 13, 2014

On August 13, 2014 at about 3 P.M. an unknown person entered a room in Dodge Hall and attempted to remove property. The person below was seen in the office at the time of the incident. The person was also observed on CCTV trying doors on other floors in the building. Public Safety is attempting to identify the individual below. If seen on campus call public safety immediately at 212-854-5555.

 CRIME ALERT - Eye Glass Scam August 5, 2014

On August 5, 2014 at about 8:25 P.M. at W. 113 Street and Broadway an affiliate was the victim of a broken eye glass scam. The male seen in the photo below accused the affiliate of bumping into him breaking his glasses. The male demanded that the affiliate pay him for the glasses. The male in the photo below accompanied the affiliate to W. 109 St. and Broadway where the affiliate withdrew a sum of money from the Chase Bank ATM and gave the money to the male in the photo.

 CRIME ALERT - 560 Riverside Drive July 26, 2014

The Department of Public Safety has been informed by the NYPD that a Non-Affiliate had his phone removed from his pocket while walking towards 560 Riverside and was subsequently in an altercation at 125th Street and Broadway with the below suspect. This incident occurred at 4:20 am on 7/26/14.

The suspect, as described by the NYPD, is as follows: Male, 5’10’’ to 6’ , Dark Complexion, 160- 170 pounds and in his 30’s. Dressed in a white tank top with zebra stripes on the front, dark sweatpants with a stripe down the side, dark baseball cap, and dark sneakers.

 CRIME ALERT - Assault June 29, 2014

The New York City Police Department reports the assault of an MTA bus driver that occurred on June 29th, 2014 at 5:55 PM on the sidewalk in front of 1130 St. Nicholas Ave (Audubon 3/ICRC). A CCTV review recorded the unidentified male shown below committing the assault.  CRIME ALERT - Attempted Larceny June 17, 2014

On June 17th, 2014 at 9:20 PM in the area of the Black Building (650 W 168 St) scaffolding on Fort Washington Avenue, a non-affiliate reports two males attempted to remove her cable secured bicycle. A CCTV review reveals the two unidentified males shown below, cutting the cable as the owner arrived. The males fled on foot south bound towards W 165 Street.  CRIME ALERT - Criminal Trespass May 30, 2014

On May 30 2014, at 3:23 A.M. the unknown male with a light colored beard in the photos below did attempt to enter several buildings on West 113 Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. by ringing the intercom/bells. He is also seen attempting to gain entry into the building by tampering with the lobby door lock.

 CRIME ALERT - Robbery June 9, 2014

The New York City Police Department informed Public Safety that on Monday, June 09th, 2014 at 11:30 PM on the northeast corner of W 171 Street and Fort Washington Avenue, a non-affiliate was the victim of a robbery. The victim was walking northbound when an unknown suspect approached from behind and physically removed her I Phone from her right hand. He also attempted to remove her purse, but was unsuccessful. The suspect fled east bound on W 171 Street towards Broadway. Minor injuries were reported by the victim.

 CRIME ALERT - Criminal Mischief June 8, 2014

On June 8, 2014 at about 1:20 A.M. an unknown male smashed the inner lobby glass door of 526 W. 114 St. A review of CCTV shows the male in the photos below enter 526 W. 113 St. and leave a short time later. A witness to the incident also identified the male in the photos as the male who smashed the glass on the door.

 CRIME ALERT - Assault - Update June 5, 2014

On June 5, 2014 at about 2 A.M. a fourth victim reported being struck by a BB in the same area. Public Safety is advising pedestrians to avoid lingering in the area, if possible.

On June 4, 2014 at about 10:20 a.m. an affiliate reported that he was injured by a pellet from a BB gun, fired in the vicinity of 3180 Broadway, near W. 125 St. Two additional victims have since come forward, reporting similar injuries to the NYPD, sustained in the same area as the first victim. If anyone has information about these crimes, or the person or persons responsible, please contact the 26 Pct. Detective Squad at 212-678-1351.

 CRIME ALERT - Bike Larceny June 4 , 2014 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On June 04th, 2014 at 2:50 PM in the area of the Hammer Building (701 W 168 St) Haven Avenue bike rack, a CCTV review reveals the unidentified male shown below riding this bike, cut the cable to a lock and removed a bicycle. The same male removed another bicycle secured by cable to building scaffolding at 4:00 PM in front of 83 Haven Avenue. The male was also observed riding in the area of the Black building bike rack. Anyone who knows the identity of this individual or observes him should contact Public Safety at 212-305-7979 and the undersigned.

On May 30 2014, at approximately 9:00 P.M. the unknown male in the photos below did remove property that belonged to an Affiliate from the men's locker room of Dodge Gym.  CRIME ALERT - Larceny June 2, 2014

On June 2, 2014 at approximately 1200 P.M. the unknown male in the photo below did remove property/bike that belonged to an Affiliate from a bike rack on Amsterdam Ave. and West 117 Street. The male is seen walking with the bike northbound on Amsterdam Ave. If anybody knows who the male is or if he is seen, please call Public Safety at 212 854-2797.

 CRIME ALERT - Armed Robbery May 27, 2014

On May 27, 2014 at 1:50 a.m. as a student was walking home, she was the victim of an armed robbery on the corner of W. 120 St and Claremont Ave. The suspect, armed with a handgun, approached the victim from behind and threw her to the ground. He stole her property and fled from the scene in a late model four door Jeep, driven by an accomplice. The victim provided the following description of the suspect: male, black, dark complexion, thin build, 5'6", dressed in dark clothing, dark baseball hat, armed with a gun.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny May 05, 2014

On May 5, 2014 at about 9:35 hours an affiliate reports the theft her property from a Classroom on the 6th floor of the Columbia School. The person in the photos below was observed on CCTV entering the Columbia School just prior to the theft and leaving a short time later. The male was also observed by the complainant outside the 6th. floor classroom just prior to the theft. Columbia University Public Safety is looking to identify the person shown in photos below.

 CRIME ALERT - Sexual Assault May 02, 2014

On Friday May 2nd, 2014 at approximately 4 A.M., a Columbia University Affiliate was the victim of a sexual assault. The victim states that, while traveling in livery cab on Riverside Drive, the driver did pull the cab over and sexually assaulted her. The victim describes the perpetrator as a Male/50’s/Gray hair/ beard. The below vehicle was used during the commission of this crime.

 CRIME ALERT - Bike Larceny April 22, 2014

On April 22, 2014 at about 3:30 P.M. the male in the photos below did cut a bike lock at Post 10 - 116th and Broadway and did remove a bike from the bike rack that belonged to a Non-Affiliate. The male in the photos below is a known PNG/Bike Thief, if seen call 911 and Public Safety.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny March 24, 2014

On March 24, 2014, between 4:40 PM and 4:45 PM an affiliate had her property removed from an Office in Low Library. A witness did observe the male in the photos below enter an office and remove property that did not belong to him. The male did exit the building after the theft.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny March 1, 2014

On March 1, 2014 at about 1:15 P.M. two affiliates had their property removed from areas on the second floor of Lerner Hall. A review of CCTV shows the male in the photos below in the area at the time and one complainant identified the bag the male is seen leaving Lerner Hall with as his bag. CCTV also shows the male leave Lerner Hall and enters the Subway at W. 116 St. and Broadway.

 CRIME ALERT - Robbery February 25, 2014

The New York City Police Department informed Public Safety that on Tuesday, February 25th, 2014 at 9:45 PM in the vicinity of W 170 Street and Fort Washington Avenue, an affiliate was the victim of a robbery as he was walking west towards Broadway. The unknown suspect grabbed him from behind, placed a sharp object to his neck and demanded his wallet and cellphone. The victim complied and the male fled south on Fort Washington Avenue. No injuries were reported by the victim.

The victim described the suspect as; Male / Dark Complexion 5'10", wearing a grey hooded jacket.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny February 24, 2014

On February 24, 2014 at about 8:30 A.M. unattended property was removed from Schermerhorn room 312. The complainant did observe the below male leaving with property. The male returned knapsack and fled with laptop. Public Safety is looking to identify the male in the photo.

 CRIME ALERT - Robbery February 6, 2014

On February 6, 2014 at about 2:10 p.m., two students were the victim of a gunpoint robbery in Morningside Park. Public Safety has reviewed video in the area and is looking to identify the male shown in the photos below. The male follows the victims into Morningside Park. It is believed that this person may have valuable information about this crime. If you have any information concerning the identity of this male, contact the undersigned or the 26th Pct. On February 1, 2014 at about 2:45 PM two affiliates had their property removed from the Party Space in Lerner Hall by an unknown person. CCTV shows the male in the photos below enter the Party Space and leave with the affiliate’s property.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny January 19, 2014

On January 19, 2014 at about 12:02 P.M. a non affiliate had his bag containing property removed from a table in Café 212 in Lerner Hall. A review of CCTV shows the male in the photos below remove the bag without permission or authority to do so. CCTV also shows the male leave Lerner Hall and head south on Broadway.

 CRIME ALERT - Robbery January 15, 2014 - SUSPECT APPREHENDED

On January 15, 2014 at about 6:40 P.M. a non affiliate female entered Morningside Park at W. 116 St. just behind a male who confronted her at the bottom of the Park steps. When approached by the male the victim was threatened and told to give up her belongings. The victim handed over her I Phone and $10.00 USC to the male who then fled east into the Park. A review of CCTV reveals the suspect below.

 CRIME ALERT - Larceny January 13, 2014

On January 13, 2014 at about 5 P.M. an unidentified person entered an office on the 6th. floor of Dodge Hall and removed property belonging to an affiliate. The person in the photo below was observed in the area by the affiliate at the time of the theft. The person was also observed on CCTV on other floors in the building going in and out of rooms. Columbia University Public Safety is looking to identify the person shown in photo below.
