In
1995, the Columbia University Department of Public Safety expanded
its Crime Prevention section by adding on
programs and security awareness discussions to help reduce and
prevent crime on campus, and in the community.
We
reached out to several crime prevention affiliation groups and
institutions including the NYC Police Department with the
goal of sharing information and increase awareness. Our motto
is "Crime Prevention is everyone's business," and we make
it our business to keep our students, faculty, staff, and the
community informed. Our constant interactions with student
life, Human
Resources, deans, chairmen, Facilities Operations, and building
managers has helped in the reduction of crime.
For
the past three years, reported crime at the Morningside and Medical
Center campuses has decreased.
