Discussing News in the Digital Age
Record Photo by Amy Callahan. |
ABC News correspondent Jeff Greenfield, left, last Thursday moderated a panel discussion, "News in the Digital Age: Journalism vs. the Bottom Line," co-hosted by the Center for New Media at the Graduate School of Journalism and AT&T. Seated next to Greenfield is Thomas Middlehoff, chairman and CEO-designate of Bertelsmann AG. Journalism School Dean Tom Goldstein and Dick Martin, AT&T's vice president for public relations, offered opening remarks before turning to panelists from new and traditional media. Among the issues explored: whether "new media" will replace "old media" (not likely, panelists agreed), how changing technology changes content, ways to preserve journalistic standards in on-line delivery, and the financing of new media ventures.
