Teams Fall to Harvard in First Big Ivy Weekend

Football Loses, 45-7

Lion quarterback Bob Thomason about to hand off in football action.

It wasn't quite a Lost Weekend, but it might have seemed that way to Columbia fans up at Cambridge last Friday and Saturday as the football, men's soccer, women's soccer and field hockey teams all lost to Harvard. The football defeat, 45-7, served to point up the loss to graduation of defensive standouts Marcellus Wiley and Rory Wilfork, as the Crimson gained 311 yards on the ground. Both soccer teams lost 1-0, with women's goalie Ali Ahern and men's goalie Matt Napoleon helping keep the Lions in their respective games. The field hockey team, still a neophyte in the Ivy League, fell 5-0. This Saturday the varsity football team hosts Towson State in its home opener at Baker Field. The game will serve as the focus for Baker Blast, the annual student celebration.
