Columbia leads most campuses in New York State in attracting federal grants, a new study shows. Columbia faculty brought in $193.8 million to the state in 1996. Only Cornell and the combined campuses of the State University of New York received more. In all, universities in the state attracted $1.2 billion, which resulted in support for an estimated 42,444 full and part-time jobs statewide, the Cornell study showed.
