 amal Kharrazi, Foreign Minister of Iran, right, joins Dean Lisa Anderson and Professor Richard Bulliet in conversation at a reception hosted by the Middle East Institute at the School of International and Public Affairs on Sept. 30. Kharrazi earlier addressed an invited audience at the school on Iran's foreign policy—the first top-ranking Iranian minister to speak to an American audience since 1979. Kharrazi's visit came as the U.S. government became embroiled in a trade disagreement over a huge natural gas exploration deal between a French energy company and Iran. During his Columbia speech, Kharrazi defended the deal and said it would be wrong of the U.S. to punish France.
