School of the Arts Creates Distinguished Board of Visitors to Advise the Dean

Columbia's School of the Arts has established its first Board of Visitors, a small and distinguished group of advisors to the School's Dean, Robert Fitzpatrick.

The announcement was made at Columbia's Board of Trustees meeting Oct. 4.

"The individuals named to our Board of Visitors share a deep commitment to the arts and cultural life of New York City, and indeed, the nation," said Fitzpatrick. "I am confident that the School of the Arts will benefit immensely from their guidance and support."

  The board members are:

Maureen Cogan, M.S.W.,'77, is a University Trustee and chairman of Art & Auction Magazine.

Stephen Graham, M.F.A., Writing'92, is the publisher of Ecco Press and a Founding Trustee of the New York Theatre Workshop.

Kathryn Parlan Hearst, M.F.A., Film'93, is a screenwriter and historian.

Daryl Roth is a theatrical producer and founder and president of Daryl Roth Productions.

Michael Wiener is the co-founder of Infinity Broadcasting Corporation and a Trustee of the New York City Opera.

The board members will support, through their professional and personal activities, one or more of the disciplines of the School of the Arts: Film, Theatre Arts, Visual Arts, Writing and the Performing Arts.

The Board will meet twice a year to discuss short- and long-term strategies to position the School of the Arts within both the New York and national arts communities, to review programmatic plans and goals, and to identify and address areas of need regarding facilities and curriculum. The five members will serve through June 30, 2000.
