Strike Update: Mediation Set for This Week
ederal Mediator Kathleen Murray Cannon has set a joint mediation session between Columbia University and Local 2110 for Thurs., Oct. 30.
This meeting will be the first official bargaining session since Local 2110 began its strike 14 days ago; it comes after several days during which the federal mediator conducted "shuttle diplomacy" in preparation for a meeting.
Last week, members of Columbia's negotiating team, including Executive Vice President for Administration Emily Lloyd, met with a delegation from Local 2110, led by UAW International President Stephen Yokich. At that meeting, both sides expressed a desire to resume discussions.
"Columbia welcomes the opportunity to return to the bargaining table," said Lloyd. "Everyone at Columbia would like to see the strike end as quickly as possible. We are committed to using these discussions to reach agreement on a fair contract."
