DSP Will Offer New Music Course
olumbia's Division of Special Programs (DSP) will expand the curriculum of its Summer Program for High School Students with a new course entitled the Program in Music Performance. The course will enroll its first students next July.
"The division regards this as a very promising venture and is deeply invested in its success," Frank Wolf, DSP dean, said.
The Program in Music Performance will develop classical instrumentalists through private instruction by distinguished New York musicians, master classes, chamber music performance coaching, ear training classes and listening classes that will focus on comparative analysis of interpretation. In addition, students will attend concerts and rehearsals by the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera and the city's other leading musical institutions.
George Rothman, director of the Columbia University Orchestra, is the Program in Music Performance's developer and its first head.
