On the Chinese Cinema

cclaimed film director Zhang Yimou, above, whose award-winning films include Raise the Red Lantern and To Live, joined Columbia faculty Feb. 5 for a seminar on Chinese cinema. Zhang is part of a top-level Chinese film and television industry delegation that is touring North America for a restrospective of Chinese cinema from the 1950s to today. With Zhang during the seminar in Kent Hall was the delegation leader, Zhao Shi, Vice Minister for Radio, Film and TV. The Columbia seminar was organized by Professor David Wang, chairman of the department of East Asian languages and cultures and included faculty from the School of the Arts Film Division.
