Robinson to Head Barnard Trustees
 | | Gayle F. Robinson |
|
ayle F. Robinson, BC75, a Citibank executive, has been elected chair of the Barnard Board of Trustees. She succeeds Patricia F. Green, who has held that post for the past five years.
Barnard President Judith R. Shapiro announced the appointment following Robinsons election at the boards February meeting. Robinson will assume the position in June.
Gayle Robinson comes to her new role with two decades of generous service to Barnard, said Shapiro.
Soon after she graduated, she became active in a host of alumnae organizations, quickly rising to positions of leadership. She has brought great energy and commitment to all she has embraced. As a board member, her lively intelligence and professional expertise have provided us with sound and valuable guidance, so it is with great enthusiasm that I look forward to working with her in the years ahead.
Shapiro continued: She assumes this position at a time of great strength for Barnard. Our application rate is soaring; our endowment has seen remarkable growth. We are deeply indebted to the wise and steady leadership provided by Pat Green during these past five years. I am grateful that she will continue as an active member of the Board, so that we may continue to benefit from her astute advice and deep devotion to the College.
Robinson, who graduated from Barnard in 1975, received an MBA from Columbia Business School in 1977 and then spent six years at Bankers Trust Co. Currently vice president, deputy executive and senior staff officer for financial industries for Global Relationship Banking, she began her work at Citibank in 1982 in its North America Finance Group, where she specialized in corporate media and entertainment lending.
In 1988, she joined AMBAC Inc. and AMBAC Indemnity Corp. as a senior vice president, heading the underwriting and policy division. She rejoined Citibank in 1997 to work with global financial services industries, building the institutions franchise with banks, insurance and investment firms worldwide.
A New York native, she is a director of New York States Council of Governing Boards for Independent Colleges and Universities and director of the Grand Street Settlement House. She is also a member of the Municipal Analysts Group of New York and the Fixed Income Analysts Society.
Elected to the Barnard Board of Trustees in 1994, Robinson currently chairs the Committee on Government Relations and is a member of the Committee on Budget and Finance. At the same time, she participates on a variety of ad hoc committees.
An active alumna, she was vice-president of the Associate Alumnae of Barnard from 1990 to 1993, and is currently a member of the National Committee for The Barnard Campaign and the Barnard Business and Professional Women Organization.
In 1991, she established the Gayle F. Robinson Scholarship Fund.
