Axel Receives Mayor’s Award

Richard Axel, the Eugene Higgins Professor of Pathology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator, received the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in Science and Technology at a ceremony in City Hall Feb. 24. The annual event honors the most outstanding scientists and engineers who live or work in New York City and celebrates their exceptional contributions to both fields of study. Axel is the tenth award recipient from Columbia since the Mayor’s Awards began in 1985.
