Columbia Strengthens Ties to the Pacific Rim

Record Photo by Joe Pineiro.

Columbia recently signed cooperation and exchange agreements with Ewha Womans University of Korea and, separately, with Japan’s Tsukuba University. With Ewha, the agreement formalizes exchanges already in place, such as the faculty exchange with the Columbia School of Nursing, and establishes terms for more to come. The Tsukuba agreement allows for even more students and personnel to work on the Heavy Ion experiment that the two schools are conducting at Long Island’s Brookhaven National Labs. At the signing with Ewha Womans University were, from left: Soo Young Auh, Dean of the International Education Institute at Ewha; President George Rupp; Sang Chang, President of Ewha Womans University; Hwa Soon Choi Meyer, Teachers College professor and Ewha alumna; Mary Mundinger, dean of Columbia’s School of Nursing, and Christian Meyer, FFSEAS professor.
