t Match Day Mar. 18, fourth-year students at the College of Physicians & Surgeons learned where they would be starting their residencies in July. Linda Lewis, associate dean for student affairs, distributed residency match results to 144 students from the class of 1998. Nationwide, 13,656 medical school seniors successfully matched for first-year training positions in U.S. teaching hospitals. The match is coordinated by the National Resident Matching Program, the primary route by which medical school graduates have obtained training positions since 1952. For the first time since 1994, more positions were available this year than in previous years.
