The fellowships are for post-doctoral research in any period of American history, an area of particular strength at the Rare Book and Manuscript Library. These are called the Gilder Lehrman Distinguished Scholar and the Gilder Lehrman Junior Fellowships.

Those interested should inquire at the Rare Book and Manuscript Library in Butler or at the Gilder Lehrman Institute located in Manhattan. The application deadline for the summer and fall fellowships is June 1.
