M.E. Amy Callahan to Assume Editorial Direction of the Record Newspaper
Stephanie Ogden Will Direct Video Services and Eileen Barroso Will Manage Photography Bureau
anaging Editor Amy Callahan will assume editorial direction of the Columbia University RECORD in June, following the retirement of Roger J. Hackett, who is stepping down after serving 18 years as editor of the RECORD. Hackett will remain at the University as part-time executive assistant to Associate Vice President for Public Affairs Virgil Renzulli and will work on a variety of special projects for the Public Affairs Office.
I wish to thank Roger for his many contributions to Columbia in a job that often requires balancing competing demands under impossible time constraints, Renzulli said. Roger brought to the RECORD professionalism, integrity, a passion for his work and a sense of humor more than sufficient to cope with the frequent chaos involved in publishing a weekly newspaper.
I know that Rogers many colleagues and friends at Columbia will want to join with me in wishing him good luck and much happiness in the future.
Callahan joined the Public Affairs staff in 1995 as assistant editor of the RECORD and was named managing editor last year. She has 10 years of newspaper experience, including reporting for The Boston Globe and the award-winning Vineyard Gazette on Marthas Vineyard. Callahan, who holds a B.A. in journalism from Northeastern University, has won several reporting honors from the New England Press Association and is completing an M.F.A. in literary nonfiction in Columbias School of the Arts Writing Division.
I very much look forward to working with Amy as the RECORD moves into the next phase of its development, said Renzulli.
In another announcement, Renzulli said that Stephanie Ogden has been appointed director of the newly created Office of Video Services in Public Affairs.
Ogden, who is currently director of visitor services at Columbia, has an M.A. in radio and television production from San Francisco State University and worked as a video producer, director and script writer in New York; Oakland, Calif., and Katmandu, Nepal, before coming to Columbia in 1994.
Eileen Barroso will manage the newly restructured Photo Services bureau of Public Affairs. Barroso has worked as a photographer and lab technician at Columbia for 12 years. Before joining the University, she worked for 4 years at a private photo lab in New York City.
