Law Opens European Legal Center

olumbia Law School inaugurated its European Legal Studies Center on Apr. 20 with a lecture by David A.O. Edward, judge of the Court of Justice of the European Communities, and a reception attended by more than 200 students, alumni/ae, government officials and friends of the Law School.
With the opening of the center, the Law School has reaffirmed its commitment to training lawyers to assume leadership roles in the global economy and in international public affairs. The center will enhance the Law Schools renowned comparative and international legal research and teaching facilities by creating new classes, increasing faculty and student exchange programs, fostering scholarship and other research projects and hosting conferences.
The faculty of the new center includes several prominent Europeanists in the American legal system, including Columbia Law Professors George Bermann, who will direct the center, George Fletcher, Jane Ginsburg, Gerald Neuman and Dean David Leebron.
