A Plea for Peace
nanya Chatterjea, the acclaimed Indian dancer and choreographer, performed at Columbia May 1 during a symposium about Sita, the idealized woman and wife of Indian myth. The conference was sponsored by the Dharam Hinduja Indic Research Center at Columbia and the Asia Society. Chatterjeas dance, From Sita: Lament, Fury and A Plea for Peace, was choreographed for the occasion. Accompanying the conference was an exhibit of ideas and images exploring how Sita is imagined in the diverse South Asian communities of New York, held in Low Rotunda.
