COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY RECORD September 3, 1993 Vol. 19 No. 1 SEARCH COMMITTEES APPOINTED Search committees have been appointed for senior positions now open at Columbia, Barnard and Teachers College. At Columbia, searches are underway for executive vice president for administration and for vice president for finance. Both positions are currently held by Joseph P. Mullinix, who leaves Columbia Sept. 7 for a similar position at Yale. The committee for executive vice president for administration is chaired by David Auston, dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Other members are: Raymond Horton, professor of business; Joan Leiman, deputy vice president, health sciences; Lance Liebman, dean of the School of Law; Lee MacAdams, student, Columbia College; Vicky Prince, deputy vice president for administration, and Nick Turro, professor of chemistry. The committee for vice president for finance is chaired by David Hirsh, chairman of the department of biochemistry and molecular biophysics. Other members are: Caroline Walker Bynum, dean of the School of General Studies and associate vice president for arts and sciences; Thomas L. Chrystie, Trustee emeritus; Jonathan Cole, Provost; Meyer Feldberg, dean of the Graduate School of Business; Steven Friedman, chairman of the Trustees' investment steering committee; John Morgan, professor of mathematics; Herbert Pardes, vice president for health sciences and dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Lionel Pincus, chairman of the Trustees' finance committee. At Barnard, Ellen V. Futter steps down as president Oct. 1. Kathryn Rodgers will become acting president until a new president is appointed. Helene L. Kaplan, former chairwoman of the Trustees, will head the search committee. Other members will be announced shortly. At Teachers College, P. Michael Timpane announced last spring that he would step down next June after ten years as president. Lambros Comitas, Gardner Cowles Professor of Anthropology and Education. and Thomas W. Eavans, chairman of the Trustees, will head the search committee. Other members include: R. Gary Bridge, associate professor of psychology and education; Isobel Contento, professor of nutrition and education; James E. Corter, associate professor of statistics and education; John P. Fanselow, professor of language and education; Antoinette M. Gentile, professor of psychology and education; L. Lee Knefelkamp, professor of higher education, and Karen Kepler Zumwalt, professor of education at the Evenden Foundation. Trustee members include: Antonia M. Grumbach, Ruth L. Gottesman, John Klingenstein, Enid W. Morse, Ronald A. Nicholson and Barbara A. Thacher.
