The film Eat Drink Man Woman, co-written and co-produced by James Schamus, assistant professor in the Film Division of Columbia's School of the Arts, has been nominated for best foreign language film of the year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The film, made in Taiwan, was produced by Central Motion Picture Corp. in association with Ang Lee Productions and Good Machine, Schamus' production company.
Also nominated was Nobody's Fool, produced by adjunct professor Michael Hausman, for best screenplay based on material previously produced or published, and for best performance by an actor in a leading role (Paul Newman).
For his portrayal of Columbia English professor Mark Van Doren in Quiz Show, Paul Scofield was nominated for best performance in a supporting role.
The Robert Redford film, which received an advance screening at Columbia last fall, also was nominated for best achievement in directing, best picture of the year and best screenplay based on material previously produced or published.
