Lyle Medal to Heyde

Christopher C. Heyde, professor of statistics, has been awarded the 1995 Thomas Ranken Lyle Medal of the Australian Academy of Science.

The medal, a recognition of outstanding achievement in mathematics research, was presented to Heyde at the annual meeting of the academy in April, when he spoke about his work on probability limit theory and its applications.

Heyde joined the Columbia faculty in 1993. He is director of Columbia's Center for Applied Probability, and he is the vice president of the International Statistical Institute, the primary international body in statistics, headquartered in The Netherlands.
