Ingrid Daubechies, professor of mathematics at Princeton and a world leader in wavelet theory, will discuss her work in the third annual Edgar R. Lorch Memorial Lecture Dec. 8 at 4:00 P.M. in 312 Mathematics.
The Lorch lecture is sponsored by the Columbia chapter of Sigma Xi, the scientific research honors society, and the department of mathematics.
The lecture was created in memory of the Columbia alumnus, professor of mathematics, department chairman and former national president of Sigma Xi. An unofficial ambassador of American mathematics in the postwar era, he initiated discussions of new approaches to algebraic computation in Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Turkey.
