Columbia laid the cornerstone of Low Memorial Library 100 years ago this week. On Dec. 7, 1895, President Seth Low, third from left, and the Trustees gathered for the occasion, solemn and without fanfare, out of respect for his father, Abiel Abbot Low, for whom the building, now a New York City landmark, is named.
