Colleagues and former students gathered in Faculty House last Thursday to honor Frank Grad, who recently became professor emeritus after more than 40 years at Columbia Law School. Dean Lance Liebman praised his "unique ability to lead and inspire student, faculty and public agencies who he has served with his sheer graciousness, warmth and empathy." Grad, who has directed the Legislative Drafting Research Fund since 1969, will hand over the reins to Professor Richard Briffault, but will continue to teach environmental and public health law and legislation. Grad also served as parliamentarian for the University Senate for many years and staff chairman for many of former President Sovern's pro bono efforts for the city and the state. Grad said he also will work on the semi-annual update of his six-volume Treatise on Environmental Law. "It's hard to break old habits," he said.
