The cartoons, eight of them, are there, too. Just click on "Pulitzer Prizes" under "Hot" on the Columbia homepage, find the 1996 Winners button and scroll down the list to the photo and cartoon categories; click on the Exhibits button at the end of each one for a selection of images.
Annual Awards
The awards in journalism, letters, drama and music are given annually by Columbia University on the recommendation of the Pulitzer Prize Board and are administered in the Graduate School of Journalism under the direction of Professor Seymour Topping.
Editor Suzanne Levine and assistant editor Frank Houston of CJR put the winners on the World Wide Web with the technical assistance of John Pavlik and Andrew Lih of the Center for New Media.
A Moment of History
This photo by Charles Porter IV, showing a one-year-old victim of the Oklahoma City bombing cradled by a local fireman, was distributed by the Associated Press one year ago and, with another taken shortly before, won the 1996 Pulitzer for spot news photography.
In a few weeks, all winning stories entered in journalism categories as well as a short sample of the winning musical composition, will also be available on the Net.
