Safety and Double Discovery

Trustee emeritus Edward Costikyan, center, chairman of the Mayoral Commission on School Safety, talked to Columbia Double Discovery Center students last week about safety in New York City's schools. At right is New York City Detective Angel LaPorte, a commission staffer. Members of the commission asked to meet with Double Discovery students after viewing a New York 1 news report on a student debate competition held this summer. School safety was one of the eight topics debated. The commission members wanted to hear from students about their safety concerns related to attending public school in New York City. The Double Discovery Center celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
