'21stC' Has Arrived

The second issue of 21stC, the magazine of research at Columbia, arrived on campus last week.

Among articles on the ethical questions of organ transplants, the scarcity of research funding for young scholars and the diplomatic uses of digital communication, was an explanation of the magazine's name.

"Some of our readers have a problem saying it," said a message from the editors.

The correct pronunciation? Simply, "Twenty-first C."

Mispronunciations aside, the magazine met high praise for its first issue published last spring.

"A remarkable piece of work," said one Columbia professor in a letter to the editors.
