Law School Receives Grant in Memory of Alumnus
aul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison has made a $100,000 gift to Columbia Law School in memory of former senior partner and alumnus Simon H. Rifkind '25.
The gift will be used to support the first year Moot Court Program, including establishing the Simon H. Rifkind Prize, a cash award to be given in perpetuity to the student whose performance is most worthy in the Moot Court arguments.
Simon Rifkind served many roles in his 70 years as a lawyer: legislative secretary to New York Senator Robert F. Wagner, federal district court judge, and senior partner at Paul, Weiss.
During his career, he represented many notable clients, including Supreme Court Justice (and classmate) William O. Douglas, Jackie Onassis and the Pennzoil Company in its successful fight against Texaco in 1986.
He died in 1995 at the age of 94.
