Eleven Columbians to Receive Alumni Medals Wednesday for Service to the University

he Columbia University Alumni Federation will bestow upon eleven Columbians its Alumni Medal for service to the University on Commencement Day.
The Alumni Medal, the highest award conferred by Columbia's alumni, will be presented by President George Rupp and the president of the Alumni Federation, Keville Frederickson, during the Federation's 99th commencement reception and luncheon in Low Rotunda.
The Honorable Joseph A. Greenaway Jr. (C '78), a Federal District Court Judge in New Jersey and a 1997 recipient of Columbia University's Medal of Excellence, is the featured speaker.
The chairman of this year's Alumni Medal Committee, Peter A. Basilevsky (C '67, L '72), will read excerpts from the medalists' citations.

Dallal |
Robert B. Brown of New York City is a self-employed consultant. He is a 1955 graduate of the College. Brown is presently active on the Columbia Alumni War Memorial Committee. He has also served on the Columbia College Alumni Association, the Society of Columbia Graduates, the College Fund, and the Class of '55 Steering Committee.
Salim S. Dallal of Wyckoff, N.J., is a vice president and the director of marketing information at the Bank of New York. Dallal was graduated from Columbia College in 1962 and received an M.B.A. from the Business School in '63. He also attended the Business School's Executive Program in Market Research in 1967. Among his many activities for Columbia, Dallal is a member of the John Jay Associates, the Society of Columbia Graduates and the Alumni Representative Committee, and has held various administrative posts in the Columbia Club of Bergen and Passaic Counties.

Stuart R. Epstein of Greenwich, Conn., is a periodontist. Epstein has a D.D.S. from the Columbia School of Dental and Oral Surgery that he earned in 1974. He has served the school as the editor of its alumni magazine, and an officer and ultimately the president of the Dental Alumni, which earned him its Meritorious Service Award in '86.
Bettie S. Jackson of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., earned a B.S. from the Columbia School of Nursing in 1967 and an Ed.D. from Teachers College in 1974. She is presently the vice president for development at the Professional Testing Corp. Jackson was treasurer of the Columbia University-Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and headed the finance committee, during which time she was instrumental in the creation of two endowed chairs at the School of Nursing.

Charles I. Katze of Larchmont, N. Y., received an M.S. from Columbia's School of Social Work in 1958. He is retired but was formerly the executive director of Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Yonkers. Katze's service to the School of Social Work's Alumni Association has included a stint as its president, its alumni conference chair, and currently as a board member; he has also served on the Dean's Advisory Committee.
Earle W. Kazis of New York City is president of Earle W. Kazis Associates Inc. Kazis received an M.B.A. from the Columbia Business School in 1958. He has served Columbia as president of Jewish Campus Life and as trustee of the Business School's Fund for the Real Estate Program.
Immanuel Lichtenstein of Princeton, N.J., is the president of the Agricola Metals Corp. A '42 graduate of Columbia College and a '43 graduate of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, he has headed the Columbia Engineering School Alumni Association and the Engineering Council. He has also worked on numerous CESAA committees, including Dean's Day, Audit, Recruitment, Student Recruitment and the Egleston Medal.
Margaret Underwood Lourie of New York City is an interior designer. A 1953 graduate of Barnard, she is currently and has been for many years a member of the Alumnae Committee for Annual Giving and a Phonothon volunteer. She has also served at various times as her class president, vice president, and secretary/treasurer.
Mathy Mezey of Ardsley, N.Y., is the Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing Education at N.Y.U. She has a B.S.N. from the Columbia School of Nursing ('60), and an M.Ed. ('73) and an Ed.D. ('77), both from Teachers College. Mezey serves the University as an Alumni Trustee, and is involved in the Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.
Edward A. Weinstein of New York City is a senior partner at Deloitte & Touche, C.P.A. He is a '57 graduate of Columbia College who has served as alumni class officer and class fund raising co-chair, president of the Columbia University Club of Philadelphia, and most recently as a member of the Board of the Columbia College Alumni Association.
Marianne Wolff of Teaneck, N.J., is a pathologist at Quest Diagnostics Inc. and a special lecturer in the department of pathology at Columbia's College of Physicians and Surgeons. A 1952 graduate of P.&S., Wolff is currently on the Alumni Association's Executive Committee, Chair of the Editorial Board Committee and Alumni Editor, and Co-Chair of her P.&S. Class Fund.
