Columbians Invited to Join Festivities in Morningside Park

Saturday, Sept. 20, From 11 to 4 P.M.

Columbians are welcome to join residents of Harlem and Morningside Heights, who will come together for Celebrate Morningside Park: Our Common Ground on Sat., Sept. 20, from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

  More than 20 institutions and organizations from the communities bordering the park have signed on as Community Partners that will offer a diverse set of activities for children and adults. Scheduled activities include: Gospel Fest and other live entertainment, a community health fair and screenings, Medieval art workshops, an historic walk led by a park ranger, planting with the park horticulturist, the Morningside Park Olympics, the Poets' Corner and the International Beach Clean-Up. All are welcome.

  Morningside Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux in 1873 and completed in 1894. The park is bordered to the south by W. 110th St., to the north by W. 123rd St., to the east by Morningside Ave., and to the West by Morningside Drive.

  Columbia joins a number of diverse institutions already scheduled to participate, including: Antioch Baptist Church, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Canaan Baptist Church of Christ, The Church of the Master, Community Board 9, Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, 14 Morningside Avenue HDFC, Greater Zion Hill Baptist Church, Harlem Interagency Council on Aging, The Interchurch Center, The International House, Manhattan School of Music, Morningside Area Alliance, New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, A. Phillip Randolph Senior Center, St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center, St. Nicholas Court, Teachers College, the 26th Precinct, The 28th Precinct, and The Valley, Inc.
