Margo Amgott has been appointed executive director of Health and Related Services. Most recently, Amgott served as executive director of administrative planning in the Office of the Executive Vice President for Administration.
"Margo's extensive background as a manager in health and human services industry as well as a wealth of University experience prepares her well for this new challenge," said Mark Burstein, vice president for Student Services. "Her leadership ability along with a talented senior staff in Health and Related Services will be an excellent combination to greatly improve the quality and convenience of the primary care, counseling, disability and health education services to students."
During her time at Columbia, Amgott has acted as associate dean of the Journalism School and associate director of the National Center for Children in Poverty at the Columbia School of Public Health. She has more than 10 years of experience in health and human service settings, including the management of women's health services at Downstate Medical Center, Kings County Hospital and Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn, and has worked with the New York City Health Department. She holds a graduate degree in health policy and management from NYU and is a Barnard alumna.
Amgott replaces Richard Carlson, who left Columbia this summer to join Collegiate Health Care where he is vice president for medical affairs. In his new position, Carlson oversees health services on 11 campuses across the country, including Oberlin, Hofstra and Auburn University.
