Institute Fellows may obtain housing at the
Maison Suger
under certain conditions. The Institute staff will explain procedures.
Set in the heart of the Latin Quarter, the Maison Suger was created
by the
Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme Foundation,
a non-profit organization, to provide a welcoming work environment
for foreign researchers who wish to spend time in Paris and work
with their colleagues in the social sciences.
The Maison Suger is conveniently situated a few steps from the square
Saint-André des Arts and the metro/RER stations of Saint-Michel
and Notre-Dame with their direct rail links, via Roissy-Rail and
Orly-Rail, to the two major airports. The
Fondation Maison des
Sciences de l'Homme, many universities, the
Collège de France,
the
Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, and a number
of libraries and research are all a short fifteen-minute walk from
the
Maison Suger.
The building contains 33 units, ranging from studios to two-room suites, designed
to function as both apartments and offices. The units are entirely furnished and
include bath and kitchen facilities. The standard equipment in each apartment
includes a telephone and color TV receiving domestic and international channels.
Also available to residents are computer terminals linked to an in-house server
with access to software and laser printing as well as to the Internet and e-mail.
Residents will find a variety of common areas where they can meet, work, and relax.
Next to the traditional reception area, with an information desk, mailboxes, and
a fax machine, is the lobby, which opens onto two meeting rooms which can be used
for meetings with French or foreign colleagues.
Additional equipment may be found in the basement. This includes
a self-service computer laboratory, a photocopier and fax machine,
a small exercise room, a sauna, and an automatic washer and dryer.
In addition to use of the equipment mentioned above,
housing fees (the most current
available on the Maison Suger web page) include basic household
furnishings, a daily cleaning service except on weekends and holidays,
and a weekly change of household linen.
