The Religion Graduate Students Association represents graduate students of religion at Columbia University. Membership is open not only to MA and PhD students in the Department of Religion but also to students with related interests in other programs.
In addition to serving its members' academic interests, the Association also organizes academic conferences, professional development workshops, an annual lecture series titled "Religion Unwound," and a variety of extra-curricular activities.
Through its activities, the Association strives to foster an atmosphere of collegiality and collaboration both between the Department of Religion's various sub-disciplines as well as throughout Columbia University and the wider region.
Every year, the RGSA organizes a graduate student conference, which provides a forum for emerging scholars of religious studies to explore critical issues in the field. The 2009 conference, which received over 150 submissions, was held on Thursday, April 2nd.
