The Thematic exploration of Daoist beliefs and practices gives attention to political and individualist philosophies, visionary journeys, sprits and deities, immorality practices, celestial bureaucracy, ritual, and theatre. Also discusses key methodological issues involved in the study of Daoism, such as the problematic distinction between "elite" and "folk" traditions, and the dynamics of sectarianism and syncretism.
