Biography
David Shatz, Adjunct Professor of Religion at Columbia, is Professor of Philosophy at Yeshiva University and editor of "The Torah u-Madda Journal", a journal devoted to the interaction between Judaism and general culture. He has published ten books and approximately fifty articles and reviews, dealing with both general and Jewish philosophy. His work in general philosophy focuses on the theory of knowledge, free will, ethics, and the philosophy of religion, while his work in Jewish philosophy focuses on Jewish ethics, Maimonides and twentieth century rabbinic figures. Dr. Shatz’s most recent books are "Philosophy and Faith" (McGraw-Hill), "Questions About God" (Oxford University Press) and "Peer Review: A Critical Inquiry". He also is editor of the MeOtzar HoRav series, which is devoted to publishing manuscripts by the Jewish philosopher Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik. Dr. Shatz was named a winner in the 1997 John Templeton Foundation Course Competition in Science and Religion.
