Biography

My focus is on the history of Chinese Buddhism between 1800 and 1949, especially social and political organizations such as sutra study groups, printing houses, religious associations, and missionary groups. Groups such as these bridge the gap between religious communities and the outer world of secular society. My research seeks to place these groups within the context of Chinese religious and social history.
