Jon Keune

Biography
Jon Keune is a Ph.D. student in the South Asia subfield of the Religion department. His prior education includes a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy from St. Olaf College (1997) and an M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary (2002). His general area of interest is historical hermeneutics -- how people translate ideas and language across time, social contexts and traditions. Jon specializes in west-central India and Marathi devotional/philosophical traditions, particularly Eknath of Paithan (16th century). His working languages to date are Marathi and German, and he is studying Sanskrit and Kannada. Jon also is interested in the history of inter-religious encounter, especially Hindu-Christian, and its effects in both India and the western world.
