Stephanie Lin

Biography
B.A. summa cum laude, State University of New York at Albany, 2006. M.A., Columbia University, 2009. Stephanie Lin is Ph.D. candidate in the subfield of Chinese Buddhism in the Department of Religion at Columbia University. Her research focus is Buddhist belief and ritual practice in contemporary mainland China and Taiwan. She is currently pursuing research on the Chinese Buddhist practice of fangsheng (releasing living beings) and doctrinal, ethical and environmental issues arising from it. Stephanie is also interested in stories of ganying (sympathetic resonance) and miracles as developed, experienced and shared within Chinese Buddhist communities from past to present.
