Columbia Outdoor Biking Orientation Program. On COBOP, incoming freshmen will complete a "tour de Hudson Valley" as they bike a four day route from Tarrytown, NY right back to the Columbia Campus. Highlights include biking across the George Washington Bridge, down the westside of Manhattan, and right into the gates of Columbia on the last day. Groups of 8 freshmen and three leaders ride together on either of the two routes. At the end of the day all the BOP groups camp together and share stories and delicious food around the campfire. No previous biking experience is necessary.

During COBOP's 150-mile bike trek, you will ride alongside rivers and farms on winding tree-lined roads through the lower Hudson Valley, eventually biking through Columbia's main gates onto College Walk. Although all participants take the same route, intimate groups of seven first-years and three leaders stay together for the entire trip, sharing tents, cooking as a unit, and traveling at their own pace. During the evening, the entire program comes together around the campfire to listen to the guitar stylings of BOP leaders and first-years, to play games, and most importantly, to talk and relax.
