Asian/Pacific American Students at Columbia Univeristy
Constitution PreambleAPAAM and its membership, who represent the Asian/Pacific American Students at Columbia University, will dedicate themselves to raise the awareness of the university community to the many diverse Asian/Pacific American cultures, histories, issues, achievements, and contributions. APAAM will also reach out to the many non-Asian cultural groups represented in Columbia University to show that the Asian/Pacific American community shares in many of the issues, problems and concerns confronted by other ethnic groups in the university community. Article 1 Name of organization and Executive Board MembersSection 1The name of this organization shall be Asian/Pacific American Awareness Month, hereafter known as APAAM. Section 2The Executive Board of APAAM shall consist of: Presidents (2) Vice-Presidents (2) Secretary Treasurer Section 3The APAAM Steering Committee shall consist of: The Board Publicity Chair Movies Chair Lectures Chair Performing Arts Chair Special Events Chair Literary and Visual Arts Chair Article 2 Purpose of Steering CommitteeSection 1APAAM is to be the focal point of all planning of events in the Asian/Pacific American community in the month of April. In addition APAAM itself will carry out its own programming. Section 2The Steering Committee shall endeavor to foster the necessary communication to ensure the proper planning of the month.Section 3A Board member is required to have worked on APAAM for at least one year before being eligible to run for office. Section 4Steering Committee members are required to have been an active member of an Asian organization. Section 5General membership is open to all undergraduates of BC, SEAS, and CC. Section 6General members are required to follow the procedures laid forth by their chairperson and to obey the guidelines defined by the Steering Committee. Article 3 MeetingsSection 1Meeting schedules for the Steering Committee will be decided upon by the Steering Committee. Section 2Meetings for committees will by decided by each committee chair. Section 3All policy decisions will by made by 2/3 vote of the Steering Committee. Article 4 Elections, vacancies and impeachmentsSection 1Members of the Board may be nominated by any member of APAAM, including self-nominations. Section 2Elections will be held no later than April 21 and no earlier than April 7. Section 3Nominations should be received no later than one week prior to elections. Section 4Committee chairs will be chosen by an interview process with members of the Board. Section 5A vacancy of position of the President will be filled by one of the Vice-Presidents in an election by members of the Steering Committee. Section 6Any other vacancy will be filled by an interview process of interested candidates. Interviews will be conducted by the Steering Committee. Section 7Charges of for impeachment proceedings should be made anonymously to the highest officer not involved in impeachment, to be discussed at a meeting. The reasons for demanding impeachment proceedings should be stated clearly and in complete detail in the complaint Section 8A member of the Steering Committee may be impeached by a vote of 3/4 of the Steering Committee. Section 9Additional committees may be created at the discretion of the Steering Committee by a simple majority. These committees will be considered Ad Hoc and as such may not vote at meetings. Article 5 Amendments and ratification of the APAAM constitutionSection 1Amendments may be proposed by any general member and require 2/3 voting approval. Section 2This constitution shall be ratified by a 3/4 majority vote of the general membership.
