Constitution PREAMBLEThis document is to be used as a guideline for the ASCE board members to resolve any possible conflicts or problems that may arise. In the event that these guidelines do not help to resolve a particular problem board members must vote to settle said problem. ARTICLE I NameThe name of this organization shall be the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). ARTICLE II PurposeThe purpose of the ASCE is to educate about civil engineering and to promote the field of civil engineering at Columbia University. ARTICLE III Officer<Section 1. The leadership of the ASCE will consist of a governing board (President Vice-president, Treasurer, and Secretary) and the committee chairs of any committee they deem necessary. Section 2. The governing board may appoint committee chairs and persons to fill additional positrons as they see fit. Section 3. The governing board and committee chairs will be responsible for the overall organization and delegation of tasks in the ASCE. Section 4. Voting will be held at the end of each school calendar year for the following school calendar year. Only the positions of the governing board will be open to vote. ARTICLE IV Membership< Section 1. Membership will be open to all undergraduate students in Columbia University There will be no exclusion from membership on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or field of study. <Section 2. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a mature manner. Failure to do so may result in a vote for expulsion. A majority vote will suffice. ARTICLE V VotingAll votes shall be decided either by the governing board or by all members present at said vote. This choice is that of the governing boards. Decisions are reached through discussion and then majority vote. ARTICLE VI Meeting and Procedures< Section 1. All members and interested persons should be informed of meetings to the best ability of the governing board <Section 2. Meetings shall only take place with the presence of at least two members of the governing board. Section 3. All major decisions should be made only upon consultation of the entire leadership of the ASCE. (Leadership being that as defined in Article III. Section 1). |
