COLUMBIA PLAYERS
Constitution

ARTICLE I

NAME AND OBJECT

The name of this organization shall be "The Columbia Players." The object of this organization shall be the promotion of interest in theatre art through dramatic productions at Columbia University.

ARTICLE II

MEMBERSHIP

  1. Eligibility Full membership and voting privileges shall be open to all matriculated students of Columbia College, The School of Engineering, The Teacher's College, The School of Nursing, Barnard College, and any and all graduate programs through Columbia University who have participated in one Players production and attend the first and last general meetings of each semester.
  2. Duties and Privileges
  1. Membership shall last for the duration of enrollment in above schools terminating of the student fails to participate in a minimum of one production in two consecutive semesters or misses the quarterly general meetings.
  2. All executive meetings are open to general membership.
  1. No member as defined by the above shall be excluded on the basis of sex, race, religion, handicap, or sexual preference.

ARTICLE III

OFFICERS

  1. Executive Board Columbia Players shall have an Executive Board, elected annually in a plenary session of Players consisting of the President, Vice President, Technical Director, Secretary, and Business Manager. They shall be responsible for all policy decisions unless otherwise decreed by the constitution. Such decisions shall be made by a majority vote of the Executive Board. The Executive Board shall utilize budgeted Players finds in the best interest of the organization.
  2. Eligibility
  1. Officers must be matriculated students of Columbia College, The School of Engineering, The School of Nursing, Barnard College, or the graduate departments either MFA or Ph.D. in theatre at Columbia University.
  2. Officers must have completed at least one academic term in one of the above schools before taking office.

To impeach an officer a petition with signatures of twenty percent of the voting members, stating the reasons for impeachment, must be presented to the Executive Board at least two weeks prior to said meeting. The person being petitioned must be notified upon receipt of said petition. This person shall have the opportunity of defense at the general meeting. Removal of an officer requires a two-thirds majority vote of the total voting membership. Votes must be secret ballot at that meeting.

ARTICLE VII

BY-LAWS

All general meetings of the Players shall be governed by Robert's Rules of Order and any other by-laws deemed necessary by the Executive Board. A Parliamentarian shall be appointed by the board who will be final arbiter in all matters of Parliamentary Procedure. Such by-laws shall not be inconsistent with this constitution.

AMENDMENTS

  1. This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the voting members present at any meeting.
  2. Proposed amendments shall be submitted to the Executive Board in writing not less than one week before the following general meeting.
  3. All amendments, before they become valid, must be approved by the Columbia College Committee on Student Organizations.
