Schedule of Services

Compline is the final office, celebrated before retiring to bed. It expresses satisfaction at the end of a day's work, but also fear at the dangers of the approaching night. It asks for peace and rest, for protection, and for light in the darkness. It culminates with the Song of Simeon (Nunc dimittis), and its request for the tranquillity of death.
Vespers is the penultimate office of the day, sung after the lamps have been lit and the final meal eaten. It includes the Canticle of Mary (Magnificat) and a Great Responsory.
