University Seminar on Modern China: Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Mail address: Box 31, Mail Code 3333, Columbia University, NYC, 10027.
Meetings: Meetings will be pre-announced to Members and Associates by e-mail.
URLs: Although our main page is located at http://www.columbia.edu/cu/seminars/seminars/regional-studies/seminar-folder/mod-east-asia-china.html (case-sensitive), we also maintain a more manageable link, ModernChinaSeminar.org (not case-sensitive), from which you will automatically be switched over to the above. The paper, when available, can be had by clicking here (bookmark the URL). Click on the paper filename, and then depending on how your browser works, you will have two options: opening the file, or downloading it to your computer.
Finances: To defray costs, such as speakers' travel expenses, we rely on contributions. Thus, if your means permits, we hope you will send us an annual check (payable to "University Seminars"). Suggested amount $30 (tax-deductible), but more is welcome! Please accept our thanks in advance. Eventually you will receive a formal receipt from the university.
CUIDs (Associates only): If you need to obtain or renew a Columbia ID card, you can do so by obtaining a letter from the University Seminars Office (305 Faculty House, 117 Street/Morningside Drive), Mail Code 2302, univ.seminars*columbia.edu, 212-854-2389), and taking the letter to the ID card office at the east end of the second floor (lower ground level) of Kent Hall, room 204. Open 9:00 - 5:00 (Tuesdays until 6:00).
Research privileges: University Seminar Associates are eligible for free library reading privileges. You are allowed library borrowing privileges for a fee of $30 for four weeks. Like the public in general, associates have limited access to ColumbiaNet. We suggest that you first read the explanation of access restrictions, then proceed to the list of resources. Also, here are some examples of sites which may or may not be available: search engines, Columbia Libraries, and digital resources.
